I would say that the mtx-3 is a great car!!!!!!!!!!

I run this car by choice not due to money issues. Handles great and is as strong as a tank. I have a sh*t load of spare parts but I never need them.

That's right, I'm still using the same susp. arms and many other parts since day 1.

I will attest to the MTX-3's strength! I'm the first to admit I'm not the worlds best driver so yeah I smacked the boards a few times and boy can this car take a hit. I owned a serpent impulse and an Impact back in the day and those cars were strong, but after seeing my Mugen take the punishment that I dish out, this thing is a champ. Ill be heading out to the track this weekend, weather permitting, and I will try my best to stay off the boards and put down some good laps this time.

Default foam tire help

just purchased a mtx3, been racing electric tc4, gonna try nitro this year, i've read some really good reviews on this car. my knowledge of foam tires is limited. can anyone shed some ideas of which to start with. race on a like new parking lot. not sealed. 60 feet x 120 feet. we use the road or pro rail track. they spray grape soda down for traction compound. on the tc4 i only ran takeoffs. thanks for any help.

Congrats on the purchase! Usually for a surface like the one you are racing on its recommended to run a 40 shore foam tire. The higher the shore number the harder the foam. The harder the foam the less traction you will get but the tire will last longer. The lower the number the softer the foam and the more traction you will have. A low shore number tire will wear out faster. There are some good rubber tires out there that have good grip on road surfaces but foam could be your best bet. 40 shore foams should give you good grip as long as the surface is clean.

Heres a good read on foam tires:
http://www.nitrorc.com/articles/foamtires/default.asp

If your LHS does not carry any foam tires check http://www.twistertiresusa.com Ive heard great things about their tires and you cant beat the price.

i also got a spool, a diff and a one way for the front. any suggestions on which to run on parking lot with traction compound sprayed on track. i tried a oneway on my electric touring sedan and man was that a handfull to drive. that lasted maybe 10 laps and out it came. went back to a diff. the spool caused it to push to much.

Id give the one way a shot. It will help getting you out of the turns faster. Since you tried it on your electric car and did not like it you might feel the same way with the MTX but its worth a shot. Otherwise go with the diff in the front and you should be fine.

I personally run a one way in the front of my MTX3 and I love it. The track I run at is not too technical and has soft turns so the one way helps me get out of the turns quicker than usual.

Does anyone have a PDF file of the instruction manual?

Also I have noticed the MTX3 uses 2 degree offset wheels. Does the new car, MTX4R use the same?

You don't have to use offset wheels. Two solutions : (1). Use wider hex. I think Kawahara Alluminium wheel hex is 1mm wider than stock. ( BTW, Kawahara also makes 1mm offset tyres = " B " Wheel ). (2). Buy 30mm wide rear tyres ( " A " wheel )

Another wheel hex you might want to try is Serpent or Xray. I'm not sure with fitness. Please check the inside hole's diameter of the wheel hex into mtx3's wheel axle. If it fit, then you are set.

MTX4 / 4R don't need offset wheels.

no need for those tires, just place a 5x10 shim between the bearing and the pin and that's it, just remember to adjust your widht accordingly

Thanks for the info on the wheel. I look forward to running the car this summer. It has been many years from the Yokomo car and the TC3 Nitro conversion from Trinity for me.

Any thing I should do to the car as a precaution?

And does anyone have a manual file for the car. The mugen website does not have it available.

You are right !
Purple: 1.6mm
Blue: 1.7mm
Dark Blue: 1.8mm (but with 1 extra coil, so the hardness is the same as Blue. This released with MTX-3 Prospec)
Gray: 1.8mm
White: 1.9mm
Red: 2.0mm
