I could basically rebuild the car including a new chassis. Got most of the stuff off ebay. So for $300 I can mess around at my local track and be somewhat competitive. I agree that the MTX-3 is an old car and the MTX-4 has way better handling, but for someone like me that doesn't race professionally and goes out to the track occasionally - I think it was a great deal.

Most of the guys at the track I run at have MTX4's and all I can say is WOW! Its an incredible ride with unbelievable abilities even with the stock settings. Very competitive!
Where dd you find parts for the MTX-3? I I am able to get a MTX-3 for $80, used but it is in great shape and spare parts included! I am trying to keep cost down as well!! I I am sure that I cannot upgrade the MTX-3 to a 4R, can I?

Thanks Jason

Put the wheels on and use your children ruler to measure the width.

Hey jscamry, sorry bout the late reply. I would say go for it! Parts are hard to come by but Ive found alot of stuff on ebay and specifically from this one ebay member, here is his store link:
http://stores.ebay.com/Hobbie-Guy-RC

The one thing that kills me is shipping cause I cant get everything from one place, but the parts are out there you just gotta look. Ive also passed up a few offers on good donor cars that would have been nice. But if the car you are talking about comes with spare parts then you found a rare thing at a great price.

To answer your question about upgrading to a 4R, I dont think so. The 4R has a different tank position (center of car) and uses a flat receiver pack as opposed to the small hump pack on the MTX3. I also think the belt drive system is positioned a little differently. Dont be discouraged though, the MTX3 is still pretty competitive and its a great car. Ill send you a PM with my email and contact me if you ever have any questions, Ill be happy to help out as much as I can!

I took the MTX-3 out for the first time on Saturday and I was totally impressed. I went out to a clean, flat, smooth parking lot with my good buddy and he took his XRAY NT1. Both cars were dialed in and it was a heck of a bashing session. The XRAY was on point the whole time (what a great car!) but the mugen was right there keeping up with its newer and well respected rival. The MTX-3 was taking corners like a champ and had plenty of low end grunt to get out of the corners blazing. I still need to do some fine tuning for the track but Im excited that the car is finally running and running hard! Next stop, taking the MTX-3 out to the track. Its an oldie but goodie and I cant wait to see the car out there running with the 4r's and serpents! Thanks to all that have contributed to this thread and kept it alive. Guys like me that still run these older cars trully appreciate all the help.

I'm still going to run the MTX-3 this year as well. Parts have come from the For Sale on this site or on E-bay, just type MTX for a search, as sometimes they have parts for both. Just need to watch out for MTX-2 or MTX-4 parts which there are not many that bolt right on.

Also, several of the overseas sites still have aluminum parts for the cars and will also discount them. If you need parts that can't be found, send me a PM as I have been refered to as the Mugen Pimp by some of the local racers, and yes the part lots are quite large.

Best thing is that the MTX-3 still takes more hits/accidents better than almost any car out there. You can break it, but you really need to work at it!!!

I have to say that other than the Serpent, the MTX3 was the other car I used for a while and actually did a lot of serious racing with it. I still have one, with a lola shell on it and wrapped up in cling-film ... retired on my shelf. But when they start racing lolas again , I'll definitely take it our racing .. this thing was made for Lolas!

Default Thank you The Rock Lives

I put the car on the track this weekend, on I have to say that the car is rock solid. I only wish that I could afford to run two onroad cars. The 200MM car is just a blast. The tracks today are full of those who have deep pockets but no real driving skill. (Hell I suck) be I know that with the right car I can be right next to many of the new cars out. I even thought about buying a Tire Truer

Hey tazman good to hear you got your car out to the track. Im hoping to take mine out this Sat. Yeah there are alot of really nice top dollar cars where I run but everyone is pretty cool. Ill admit I have the oldest car there but hey, Im not racing professionally so my MTX-3 is just fine for my needs right now. I love to go out and have fun so lets just see how my MTX runs against the big dogs! Quick thanks to all that have chimed in about spare parts.
