Cleaning the heat sink

I want to clean off my heat sink throughly and i know i need to take it off but i have alot of dirt around the inside of the vents and i wanted to know what should i use as an outside cleaner to prevent any dirt from falling in when the glow plug is off, or do you think im safe just to take it off. The dirt isnt really near the glow plug, just on top the head under the last vent.

You are right to think you need to clean it before removal. If there is stuff around it I always do.

You can use denatured alcohol or any sort of nitro blast cleaner.
