Default Cheap NEW engine for old FW05RR??

Hiya all...

I have a FW05RR and currently have a 07 JP Racing engine (it has only 3L through it) and I just cant seem to tune it (it has 4 needles not the normal 3) Many of my fellow racers have had a look at it to no avail. I do intend coming back to it, but I am an absolute amatuer and need to do some learning first.

I want a brand new engine to experience the break in, the tuning etc but the car is getting old (2004) and will not keep up with the new cars anyway, so i dont want to spend heaps on an engine as I am not very competitive and just want to run the thing around a track and get some much needed tuning/racing experience.

So...

Can anyone recommend a good cheap economical engine that i can run in it?

Must have:
SG Shaft
Rear Exhaust
Slide Carb

I want to spend about $150 only. The missus is watching over my shoulder

Mhhh on that price target ... OFNA / Picco 7 ports (red head) or 3 ports if you race ROAR rulebook. And VP PRO Right side exhaust system.

good luck, great car !

Best option to me is:

RB Products SPEED .12 3-Port Touring Car Engine (Turbo Plug)
[RBD01712-000650] MAP Price: $139.99 at a-main hobbies
It is a nova based engine, its ROAR legal, it is reliable.

I am running a rb speed 12 now in my nt 1 and for the less skilled it is plenty fast when tuned and it is not a killer on the wallet

cheers for the replies.

RB Speed .12 looks like the goods.

I am interested tho..

The OFNA engines are the same size but say they are made for offroad.. whats the difference?

The OFNA Picco 51121 is on special right now for $69

sorry to drag on...

What about an offroad engine in an onroad car?

The track we run on is built on a day to day basis and is therefore very tight and the straight is short..

The offroad would have better low end torque.. lower revvs, better efficiency.. not as much top end.

Would this work?
