I wasn't going to post for a number of reasons, mainly this is the On-Road section, but I can't help myself!

Anyhow, one of the biggest things I see that's hurting Nitro is the constant moaning about "nitro dying" whether thats perceived or real. There's probably 2-3 threads a month on here about nitro dying or being dead. This is simply reinforcing the idea for potential racers NOT to get into nitro. If the class is "dying" as everyone always proclaims, then why bother? People would rather go buy an electric for a "not-dying" class. If you want to race nitro, get your gear together and go race. Encourage other people who own nitros to come out. When an electric racer inquires, give them a slightly biased spiel about nitro being the better, more manlier class. When I first got to this area, there were only 3 other people racing nitro, we're steadily growing that number! We lost two nitro guys to military reassignments, but we should be very close to a full class of nitro buggies this weekend, versus just a couple years ago with only a handful. Why? Because the all the nitro racers pushed the class forward.

If you want nitro to live, stop telling everyone it's dying and go out and promote the class.

Nitro will not die ..... at least for me.

I still have brand new servos, piston sleeve, engines, chassis, gears, pipes, and 20kg of xray and mugen seiki parts ..... hahaha. I have no idea when I can finish them.

Listen, I'm a rookie when it comes to RC, and not the most knowledgeable since I'm new and this hobby has a lot to learn, but I can offer an opinion based on numbers.

I went to two different websites (e-tailers, I don't want to say who because there are some rules about posting links I'm nbot familiar with, but you can look into this easily) and this is what they have:
E-tailer 1
Electric: 640 available cars
Nitro: 152 available calrs
Gas: 12 available cars

E-tailer 2
Electric: 8 pages of available cars
Nitro: 2 pages of available cars
Gas: 3 cars total.

Now, the low number of Gas cars may be due to their price, they can be prohibitive. However, the price difference between Nitro and Electric is nothing.

I agree with what has been said, Nitro is NOT difficult to tune, just read the manual and watch the dvd. I have a nitro truck that runs reliably and at a safe temperature range, and I'm a total newb. I love nitro, the sound, smell, looks, etc. However, the maintenance on a nitro vehicle is a little more "brutal" than an electric (after run maintenance). Most people have full time jobs and families, so it is not always feasible to spend some time during the week screwing around with a nitro truck. I have 3 electric cars and only one nitro, and while I might build more electric cars, 1 nitro car is all I have time to handle.

Now, as far as nitro cars being more popular in one area than another, yeah, sure, I agree, but that's not enough. Look at e-tailers (nationwide) and manufacturers and notice the very big gap between electric and nitro.

I like nitro and I am not arguing that one is better than the other. Also, I don't think Nitro is going to go away any time soon. However, I do not see how Nitro, regardless of your own particular feeling, will ever be popular.

Ultimately, manufacturers and e-tailers make and stock what sells, because even though they might like what they do, and even though they might like to please customers, they do it to make a buck, not because they love you.
