Stratus 3.0/3.1

Anyone try the new Stratus body yet? I just picked one up but haven't painted it yet. I'm hoping to have it ready for this weekend.

This past weekend, I brought both a Mazda 6 body and a brand new Stratus 3.1 body to the track to see if I could tell the difference.

I've run a Mazda 6 body all of last year and most of this year. I've been able to get my car pretty sorted with the 6 and typically finish in the top 5 in the A main in our area. I run on a very smooth, prep'd parking lot and a perminent on road track with a NTC3 FT.

Without changing any other variables, I ran the 3.1 and could feel the car had more steering AND was more planted all around. Basically, it felt like it had a more equal all round amount of noticable downforce.

Granted, I like the looks of the 6 better, but I will run the Stratus 3.1 for the rest of this year.

Did it improve your lap times any?

TC_Tuner 06-06-2005 07:46 AM

In general, it made the car more consistent. In the past, I've had trouble finishing 30 minute mains, but this time out I finished 2nd with a 'consistency' of 1.6 seconds. Basically, that means that over the course of 85 laps for 30 minutes, my laps times only deviated by 1.6 seconds - that's also figuring in 5 pit stops.

Now, will the 3.1 Stratus be approved by the time the Touring Car Nationals roll around?

Did you guys find the window masks and the light stickers fitted poorly too?
I'm talking about the 200mm versin. The front and rear window masks look like they're for 190mm. And the rear lights need to be cut to fit.
