If you set up your car properly and your car isn't a POS it should last w/o wrenching during any race.

TOP needle
Bottom Needle
Fuel GUN
and how to handle the car, proper communication verbiage, and intensly paying attention to you and your car w/o getting distracted during the entire race.

That is it - pretty simple. A 10yr old could do it......

Now if your car isn't tuned right and screws are falling out everywhere and you are flaming out all the time - NO pit person can help you.

That is correct. If the car is having tuning issues and is falling apart it is your fault not the pit person. Here we have a few husband/wife teams and to tell you the truth the girls do pit better than the guys. If she is into helping you you are very lucky indeed. At the very least show her how to pick the car up without hurting herself, if she does its bye bye pitlady. Show her the high and low speed needles and how to adjust them. You will have to tell her how many turns and in what directions at first until she knows her way around tuning. Fueling is extra simple and more if she is using a gun. However remember to plan the pit strategy ahead of time with X o Y time in between pits. Most of the problems during the pits is that they are improvising during pitting. At first don't try to do extra laps with very little fuel or risk of her trying to start a car after an empty tank is not as easy as one would think specially for a beginner. But do show her how to start the car. The rest is to practice, practice with her and make her feel what is she, really the most important person helping you out.

Ohh and do work on hand signals since the pits are loud and she won't hear you.

Always remember :

1. Respect her : no shouting .... no name calling .....even she made mistakes.
( in my opinion, it's your mistake in the 1st place for using female for pit crews )

2. Thank her : give her kiss and say thank you ..... have dinner with her... or whatever activity to appreciate her support for u.

My wife signs up the racers and runs the scoring locally. She has pit for me many times and does a pretty darn good job of it. There have been a couple of times when problems for me on the track gave her a problem in the pit, but she was a trooper and did all she could to keep me up and running. I try not to have her pit ( she's 62), but she would any time I ask. Start her slow and easy and don't put pressure on her. You have to love any woman that will support you in this hobby sport.

Says as much for your husbandry as it does her bold support, congrats to you both. It's can be a stressful task, nothing nice about getting screamed at...male or female.

Though i`m not the screaming type, i must admit i sometimes have (had) my moments in the heat of a final. My pitmate (for live) is very forgiving and i Always make up afterwards.

Making up for this is not needed much anymore since we got experienced in working together. Pitting is getting faster and faster. The mistakes are with my driving now, so i better shape up.

Default wife girlfriend pitting

I had my girlfriend, later to become my wife pit for me a few times. She was pretty useless. I didn't have the heart to tell her. She really was helpful at registration and organization at the tech area......There's lots of ways to enjoy (or just tolerate) our addiction.....

Default Hmm

Much like the "fembots" in Austin Powers, maybe we should create a line of roboticized pit people. Imagine the speed in refueling. Imagine the agility in turn marshalling. There is but one problem...

What if they fall in love with the car and run off with it?
