Personal/Track Transponders/AMB

How does the computer system know who is who of certain vehicles? I ask because is there one frequency to each transponder built or are they similar to crystals for radios?

I noticed that the track/rental transponders are larger than the personal sets, but they did not have a plug. From what I can tell in pictures the AMB personal versions have a plug to plug in. Any information is greatly appreciated.

They all transmit on the same frequncy, just different I.D.#s. The larger handouts are self powered(larger to make room for battery). The personal versions tap into your reciever for power.

AS far as the rentals that they hand out at the tracks, the PC has no idea who has which transponder. The PC just reads when each transpoder passes by the loop. When the race director feeds the names into the PC, the computer program used asigns a transponder # to each name in each heat. The PC doenst know which cars has which transponder, it just assumes that car #3 has transponder #3.

About the personal ones that you can buy, those have a unique ID number. When the race director fills your name in the PC, he has to tell the program that your name should always have that ID number.

Hope it makes sence

The personal is guaranteed to be correct everytime then?

I did notice this on Sunday, the chart said that "Brian" came in third place because of a DNF, but there was no Brian and I was the person in third with the DNF.

No exactly. With the personals the ID is sometimes entered incorrectly, I think it has like 7 numbers on it. They are both very reliable, the rentals must be charged constantly, thats why they have to be put back in the small tray after every heat.
