[quote=bescacho;11883524]Hi, I am considering buying a Serpent 710 from someone and need some help.

Is the 710 a really old model? Is it very outdated compared to the current models (733 / 747)?

The 710 I am considering is in great shape and comes with everything except the receiver and starter and the seller is asking for $400.

Please let me know you thoughts and much appreciated![/quote
at that price you can buy a newer car and have more fun plus the 710 is not a strong car if you skills arn't up to par snd you hit alot the car wont hold up. try to get a later model.

I used to race the 710 long time ago if i remember correctly the 710 are fast if you dial it in and dialing it in is a little hard because the sweet spot on these car's are a little smaller .. for that price you can get a good newer roller ... the 747 are a nice, just drove one couple of weeks ago and i was amazed how smooth and easy it was to drive ...

as to your question is it old yes its outdated.. the car geometry has improve so much that the 710 would be hard to set up compared to newer cars, parts are also hard to come by

400 a little to much for a 710 nowadays.. i just sold a xray nt1 2011 for 250 perfect condition too..

Sorry just cause a car is new doesn't mean you can get parts for it easily... Yes some brands are well supported depending on your location and how good the distributor is. Something I have learnt is to built up a parts supply yourself, nothing worse then not being able to have a run cause a part is on backorder at your LHS.

I don't have an issue someone buying a 710, but would want to have a good parts supply to keep yourself going for awhile. Having the latest doesn't buy speed... I am living proof of that, have just about every current model and by no means does it make me a WC driver

Wish I could fix the weather though

As a former owner of a serpent 710, I would say don't buy it. It's drivetrain efficiency wasn't that great, wasn't as easy to work on as cars today. Parts will be harder to find. The clutch wasn't as good as a rtr clutch today. There has just been a lot of money put into development of nitro touring cars since (2003 is when I had mine, it was great then compared to the other cars) But time is the enemy of any undeveloped race car. If it was a 733 I would say fine go for it since that was a pretty good car. But at this point your better off getting something like a mugen mtx4 that you can find SUPER cheap and it wasn't a bad car. But there are about 20 cars on the list that I would buy before that. Hell, If your that hard off I have older NT1's from 2007 that I can sell you and you can be competitive club racing with it anywhere.

I would say set a budget and solicit people in the want to buy thread on here. That way you get a better bang for your buck. I sold my 710 a couple years ago for like 80 bucks in ready to race mint condition, new 4mm chassis that was black anodized, rcc shocks and all the modern updates I could make. It still wasn't a great car compared to current era. Get something else. For 400 your getting screwed.
