5th ANNUAL TIMEZONE GRAN PRIX JULY 18TH THRU 21ST 2013

Good morning to all, sorry for the delay on posting information on the 5th Annual TimeZone Gran Prix July 18, 19,20,21, 2013

Thursday will be pit setup and practice same as last year, with practice on Friday and one round of qualifying and Saturday will be three rounds of qualifying and lower mains if needed and Sunday for upper mains.

This year we will prep the race track with “Lane Choice”, which is not normal for us but more fair for all who travel to the race.
Also this year for GT the motor rule regarding cost will be raised to $280.00 limit to mirror the rest of the country.
We will also have the famous Saturday night BBQ for which is included with your entry, if you haven’t been here before the BBQ is worth the trip alone. Also we have camping available for those who would like to camp, same as years before and no RV hook ups.
We look forward to seeing all our old/young friends returning and some new racers that will make the trip for the first time.
So with that said we will see you all in July for another great race.

Classes:

1/8th Scale Nitro:
1/8th Scale Nitro Masters (depending on entry's for this class)
1/8th Scale Electric: TZ Challenge
1/8TH IGT
1/10th Scale Nitro:

We'll get a flyer with more class and event info up soon, but wanted to get it on the Radar

Thank you and hope to see everybody for this great race.

THANKS! :D

Will there be a spec tire for the GT class this year?

spooky 1 02-28-2013 11:56 AM

I have a good engine to fit in that price cap. I hate a price cap, but I do have one (last year I had to buy one) I'm sure Sweep spec tires again would work. What kind of difference do we expect on the sauce change.

Gus, you would still come even if we capped it at $100:sneaky::lol:

What events have motor caps for GT8:confused: Homestead,SWCS,Byrons,Ipanema etc etc do not, I think this will be the only event with a cap!! Love to make this one but i would have to buy an engine! Seems to me that that mirror has been cracked LOL!

Last year these series and events had engine limits:

Heart of America Series
Fireball Race
Time Zone Race
Midwest Series
Byrons Race

Also, the Ipanema events have a Spec and Open class as well.

There may have been more, these are just the ones I went to. The other races I ran used open engine rules. Results were similar but racing was closer with the limits on the engine.

I like the $280 limit, from the point of getting more racers into the hobby and quality of what you can purchase vs the $200 amount back 2-3 years ago. Lastly, the ROAR rules if EVER published was to have some kind of limits but since NO ONE has seen these, that is just speculation.

So what mirror cracked???

Speedy*1, Spooky, Fly'n Hawaiian - I know your position and respect it as well .......

I promise, my one and only post on this subject this year.

Gus, If you remember they sprayed the track on Saturday last year, but did not seem to make a lot of difference. (well to me anyway ... ) You could also go back to the race in Colorado, as we used the same spray on our track.

Question would be "Which" tires, as there were many changes in the tires, rims and foam inserts last year. I have a lot of options: :sneaky:

T.Clark 03-01-2013 06:33 PM

See you guys then!

R3VoLuTiOn 03-03-2013 01:38 PM

Definitely can't miss out on this!

Hopefully I won't be traction rolling everywhere this time

spooky 1 03-07-2013 09:32 AM

Mark, are you going to make the Timezone race this year? Hope so. I'll go off that spray from Denver and see if we have a spec tire.

Grenade10 03-07-2013 01:24 PM

Gus, Yes I have the race on my list again to do, not sure I'll drive this time but maybe. I'll PM you my proposed schedule ......:D

scary_jerry 03-09-2013 11:36 AM

Timezone GP.....just about the most perfect concoction I can think of.

I like the bump on the motor limit, as was stated last year, it gets into the realm of a motor with a bit more longevity. Good move.

The SWEEP 50 shore tires 'speced' last year were 'optimal' as far as I'm concerned, If you need something different.........I'll get an advantage you don't want me to have anyway.......leave it at SWEEP 50s available at the track as usual.

:D

Looking forward to my 3rd trip, camping with the bunnies, coyotes, and bears. Experience should pay off.........DON'T look into 'Grenades' VOODOO Doughnut box........don't trust 'locktite'........:D

Hey guys, we are almost done with the race flyer and will have it posted soon.

We will still have a spec tire for the GT cars like the past years.

we are in the planning part of some track improvements for this year. The sealer we put on last year looks good thru the winter and is fully cured and it is ready to rip.
we are buying a drum of lane choice traction compound and will experiment with application amounts to make sure we are ready for the big show.
We hope that everybody will make this race as we always have a great time and love having everybody here to enjoy our facility.

Also this year we will have the GO QUADS ready for some fun this year, Ryan (T-Hawk) has already stepped up to help and make sure we have a bunch ready to rip around the track. if you havenít run one around the track itís a hoot and if we all play nice together we will put all we have running on the track for some competition. (we have like 7 Go Quads) and to see them all on the track with you hooligans driving them will be a big laugh.

Thanks

Rick

spooky 1 03-12-2013 09:31 AM

Put me down for a qaud. It looked way too fun last year. Can't wait to see you all again and do some racing. Thanks for all your efforts out there. It's a great event.

R3VoLuTiOn 03-12-2013 11:50 PM

Rick, sign me up for a few rides in those quads :tire:

Im sure Ryan won't mind giving us a few lessons

Track Improvements

Sounds like the St. Cyr Crew will be adding some curb extensions, getting on to the straight and the sweeper at the end of the straight, where the "Grass Wall of Doom" has been rearing its ugly head. Plus some of the dropoffs will be getting fixed as well!
Remember this years race will have the added investment, from the Timezone family, an ample supply of Lane Choice traction compound!

Sounds like you are gearing up for all that new horsepower in the GT $280 class.

Spooky and I were just in L.A. at the Airtonics Race and saw a bunch of the Timezone participants there. :sneaky:

Spooky took 2d in A Main GT behind Paolo and Craig Kaplan of Airtronics took 3d.

I took 1st in B Main by 2 laps and broke in the A but did 'pit bash' to return to track. Lots of fun.

Can't think of all the gang there but Swauger, Palazzola, Fischer, Toffelmeier, Morganti, and many more had a blast.

We were doing our 'Timezone Tuneup'.........:D

The 1/5th scale ran what I would call a '30 pound sledge fest'.......it got red flagged to repair the carnage before restart. Watching a line of those beasts 'in the draft' was fun.

Now the daydreams drift back to 'Rick's Backyard Playground'.......

T-Hawk 03-28-2013 03:35 PM

Nope. We will still run our $200 motors:D

Did you notice that the Bryon's race in Chicago has lifted the engine rule and now have it open engine .28 or less.

Yep, Spooky has seen fit to get the 'UTAH Contingent' out for a little bit of 'warm-up'. They'll be seeing Rick in L.A. at the KOPROPO event to show him......"WE ARE WORTHY".......:sneaky:......to attend his TIMEZONE GP.

Jacko was my inspiration last year. I feel that once I can get 'on-his-tail', Clete is 'within-my-sights'............:D

(thanks Mike and Clete for picking up on the GT/IGT phenom)

HEY Clete take a look at what Jack Eaton has done for the Magna Track you ran on last year.......(utahrc.com)........it took me all season last year to 'best-your-first-visit' and take 'State Sportsman GT 1st Place'. :sneaky: YOU ARE AN ANIMAL.........:D

T-Hawk 04-28-2013 07:11 AM

Traction application went very well yesterday using a 2-1 ratio of methanol and VP Lane Choice! Traction was smooth and consistent and something we are not used to this early in the season:nod: Keep those signups coming in!:tire:
