Default Amount of Air filter oil

Hi guys,

Have been trying to figure this out as i`ve read that air filter oil should be applied from the inside of the air filter. does that mean the filter should be soaked with air filter oil?

How much should be applied on the air filter? just a thin coat would do? that`s what i have been doing till i read this.

Pls help me.

Thanks!!

put the filter in a baggy. then put 2 to 3 drops of filter oil to the filter. now squeeze and work the filter so the oil gets to the whole filter area. you don't want to soak the filter with oil. just 2 to 3 drops is enough.

its just as important to be consistent with the amount that you use, otherwise each time you do it your tuning will be off..

what i normally do is squeeze alot into a bag, and i have about 3 filters in it. after throughly soaking them, i take one out and squeeze it on a rag. is this good enough? it`s evenly spread.

sounds to me like your using too much..
3 or 4 good drops on a filter should do it..

Interesting. I went ahead and used the entire packet of oil that came with my associated filter. Way more than 3 drops.

Do you think this is too much. I was figuring that associated included the right amount of oil for one filter.

And the packet was non sealable so it was a one use type thing...

But yeah after dispensing the oil. I then put it back into the bag and smashed the filter with my fingers. That evenly spread it.

But I might remove more.

the filters that came with my hpi motor were dripping with oil.. wayyy too much oil...
air still needs to be able to travel through the filter..

Well after squeezing it hard. I noticed the bag only had a light film of oil....there wasnt a lot left over.

So im thinking im ok. Im almost think 3 drops isnt enough....but im used to motor saver filters, just lately got the big bore 1/8scale style filters. Thats just an open large foam element.

Also one way to tell if you used to much. Might sound silly, but suck on the filter before you oil it. Then suck afterwards, if its hard or much harder to suck than before...then you could probably try removing some oil to try and get it back to non-oiled flow rates.

well there is a big difference between 1/10 and 1/8 filters..
I use about twice as much for my buggy filter than I do the r40.

another thing I do is look at the coloration of the filter.. usually after washing the filter its almost white.. the oil I use is red, so after applying oil and working it around, if the entire filter doesnt have a shade of red then I add more..
