You are too lean! Not enough fuel in the idle mix.

Ok sounds to me someone has leaned the hell out of the bottom needle. It's probably seated in the jet with a 2mm idle gap.

You best unwind the low speed needle 2 and 1/2 turns counter clockwise.
Reset your idle gap and carefully re-adjust your low speed needle. Either carefully wind clockwise to closed and then unwind 1 turn open and work from there.

See link in prev post

I see you have the tamiya tgs with the fs12sw engine, had one...very basic AAN engine with one needle carb.Follow the advice from blis and reset the carb to a idle gap of a little less than a millimeter and 2 and 1/2 turns from closed on the main needle and report back please.

Top speed is really low, around 50km/h at best.
Well this model was the first one I had,ten years ago.The most trouble I had was the ignitor that would die quickly...Do the carb has the 2 screws holding it?Are they screwed in?Do you see bubbles in the inlet fuel line? Can't remember other issues,I always used a 8 OS glow plug and 16% nitro apart from the glow plug igniter all was fine.

30Tooth, I don't personally know the car and Im happy you do.

I live in Brisbane...

Only one needle? And it's probably not "run in" either?

Sambo, in all honesty if it's a single needle engine and you havent started it yet and had a run.... Did you buy it locally? If so, either go back to hobby shop and get them to "run-in" and "tune" it for you or...

If you havent even had it rolling, consider a car with a two needle engine, otherwise tuning will always be a problem. I'd say one of the toughest tasks in RC would be running in a 1 needle engine!

Anyway, I dont want to dampen hearts, go with 30Tooth's suggestions as he's had one. If all else fails and you are near Brizzy, we can meet up at a track.

Can you post photos of your carb, Down the throat w/o air filter, and adjustment screw?? FS12 maybe old carb. This carb maybe manufacture seetting is 4 turns from bottoming the HSN. 2.5 turns when tuned correctly. May smoke like hell. but running. Start lowering the idle when warmed up. When rpm is acquirted to your likeing. start leaning your HSN. Rpm may rise when you're doing this adjust as needed. Adjust HSN at 1/16 turn at a time, since its your first engine. 1mm airgap usually the minimum. adjust by sound if you are confortable. Patience it takes.

Photo can help us to look at what you have.

It was a rough ride for first car.Bought mine second hand and the good moments were so few.
Ideally you should have gotten a better car, like the Team Magic G4JR,Kyosho FW-06,Hobao CD3,HPI RS4...They are the next level compared to the TGS,the TGS is more of a RC display model.
The stock fuel tank gave me problems, had to replace it with a HPI RS4 tank. And do as blis says,he has way more experience than I.Sambo,it may seem that we want you to have a lot of work but believe me we want you to have maximum fun and minimum hassle.
