his car in the seventies, already featuring :
a diff, disc brake, mid engine position, a tunable front suspension, a flexy 3 mm alu chassis
and an automatic transmisssion
nobody realising how good it was at that time..

Unhappy

Sad to hear of the passing of such a great man who had the passion for RC Car development. I met him at the Pomona track about 1977-78 ish. I was living in "Sunnymead" and was actually involved in 3.5 K&B Tunnelhulls at the time but thought the Thorp cars were neat. He talked to me about his experiments with turbo and supercharging the .21 engines......he was a pioneer.

I now race GT8 and think of those first RC cars I saw at his track.

A great loss to our hobby. A real pioneer in the industry.

I raced with John in the 70's and 80's, he was a real pioneer and gentleman in RC Car Racing. As mentioned before, he had so many innovative ideas that we take for granted today. You will be missed by so many of us. Thank you for all you did to make our sport/hobby a lifetime passion. "Rest In Peace John"

I remeber racing with John in the early eighties, he was truly pioneering in the RC car hobby, his diffs were the best in there time, and he was a gentleman racer too.
