Hey guys,

To convert the front shafts to universals on my MTX4, do i just order part number T0245? This is the same one on the mtx3 i believe. I have my front track width set a 199 mm and the shaft sometimes pops out.

MTX4's front universal is longer than MTX3's front universal. So you have to order the exact part number for MTX4's front universal.

However, If you want to try MTX3's front universal to be use in MTX4, well...... I guess it could be done as long as you keep the front track width very narrow and most importantly, you must use o-ring or little piece of foam foam ( I use tamiya damper red foam --> red foam that you put behind shock membrane to keep the membrane from collapsing ). This foam / o-ring should keep outdrive cup remain intact to front one way unit. Without the foam, the outdrive cup can slide out from one way unit, and broke the one way bearings.

If you want to use regular dogbones, please put o-rings on each side : one in wheel axle's outdrive cup and one in oneway's outdrive cup.

for the front shafts i thought you were just meant to put the o-ring on the diff cup only. The diff cup has come out twice on me now so i hope the bearing is ok, any way to tell?

Does anyone know what the part number for front universals on a mtx4? Will this stop the shafts popping out?

The part number is TO245 and that's what I'm using running my cars 199mm wide. My shafts have never popped out, are you sure that you have the right universals?

Kindest regards,
Lars.

Thanks for clarifying the part number. I haven't got the universals yet. So if i order T0245 it will come with all the parts needed? Also, i'm putting the mtx4r front uprights on, but will i need to do anything else to make them fit correctly? I hear they are much better. i'm a rookie at onroad so just trying to get my car sorted, bit different to 1/8 buggies.

mate have a look on ebay and buy the hole lot, just make sure they are for a mtx4, i made the mistake of buy front/rear for a MTX2 i think it was and the hub part is to short and to narrow but i had some old rear universals so i took the hub off that and put it on the shafts its all good now never lost a dog bone since (especially because there are no dog bones hehe)

mtx3 and 4 front unis are the same, is on the rears that changes, being the mtx3 the shortest compared to the mtx4 which are long, son in conclusion
you have 3 sizes to choose,
dont know about you but on front of my mtx4, i use the mtx3 rears unis with no problems, but i added a 5x10x0.5mm thick shim between the plastic hexe and the bearing, 2 years and no problems and never have popped a front uni.

I think seisick is right about Front universal for mtx3 and mtx4 are the same length.

For Rear universals, then they get different : mtx4 is the longest and mtx3 is the shortest ( compare to front universals ).

Sorry, I was mistaken before.

Got something to share after some research on belts.

Various RC belts and number of teeth for cross use / reference. I hope my work can be use for all of us.

BELT(T)........NT1........MTX4.......MTX3.......V1 RRR.......MRX4.......M3........G4S
FRONT..........62T........63T..........67T........ .63T............67T..........69T.......70T
MIDDLE. ......132T......129T.......125T........128T....... ...144T........140T......126T
REAR............59T........59T.........64T........ ..60T............67T..........67T........64T

Most RC belts are 3mm pitch belt.
The length of RC belts = total # teeth X 3mm

Examples : Evolva M3 middle belt is coded S3M420, S3M means 3mm pitch, 420 means 420 / 3 = 140 teeth.
