I have to correct my gearing statement. I'm running 60/18 54/24. So, what you're saying is that I should lighten my gearing to possibly stock settings 59/17 and 53/23, which would cause the engine to rev out and produce less top speed and more bottem end punch?

for 30% nitro use the stock shimming........

20% use 0.20~0.25mm......

I have sort of novarossi engines ( LL5, NSR S3, S5, FX3, FX5 ). I notice LL5 engines get maximum rpm too fast than NSR engines. LL5 is screaming longer than NSR at long straight. My home track is 75 meter long straight.

I overcome the problem with 58/18 and 52/24 for LL5 engine setup.

You could try 59/18 and 53/24 as first try, or try mine above if you feel the engine is still screaming too long.

FYI : MTX4 first gear ratio produce very high acceleration compare to MTX3. Not nice for my home track condition.

Also check your clutch shoe ( doughnut type ) for wear, and the centax spring tension. It should be 0.6mm to 0.8mm ranges, or ask some experts on race track with MTX4 cars.

R U sure ? ( are you living in high altitude ? )

I think 30% nitro need additional shim(s) for safe reason. Original Novarossi get 0.30mm silver shim included. It is good for 25% nitro but that's the maximum safe limit.

Every 5% increase in nitro content, it is advised to add 0.10mm shims.

On my Sirio EVO III, I only had to add a 0.1 shim to the stock shims for 30%. I have over a seaon and a half of racing on this motor using the Cyrul method and it's still going strong. Shimming specs came from Andea at Sirio.

the guy asked about the plus 12-3ct engine and this engine can run with 30% nitro with stock shimming at 800m of altitude..........

BTW........2 friends of mine went to the WC in Brisbane........one of them ran a Plus12 shimmed with only 0.10mm for the 16% nitro fuel available at the event...........

the engine ran flawlessly through all the practice sessions, qualifying sessions and the 1/32 final........almost 2 hours of hard racing and the engines is perfect (combustion chamber, plug and piston crown).......

We went and raced at the Pre worlds in Feb this year, and used the same fuel. It was Runnertime 16% and it is awesome fuel. The only problems we experienced was when we got back home and changed back to normal fuel.
