Try this I race on a tight technical track aswell. (if you use a diff or a spool use softer tyres on the front 37*)

I use 37 on the front and 35 on the rear...its what the local guys use on their X4 as well.

Thicker Diff Oil : Basically you want to turn tighter

Off throttle : rear tires can slide sideways, the car rotate easily.
On power : rear tires also slide but more importantly the forward traction is enourmous on both wheels.
Application : tight corners, on power sweeper, hairpin corners, on power corner ( exit ).

Thinner Diff Oil : Basically you want to turn less tight.

Off throttle : rear tires have more grip but less slide sideways.
On throttle : There is spinning possibility for the tire with less traction ( not good ). ---> You want forward traction instead tire spin.
Application : open wide track ( less demanding driving skill )

30K diff oil is common use.

Anyone notice a marginal difference in performance between the 3 and the 4? A friend is offering me his 3 with few upgrades and parts for $200 or so. I'm considering it.

Whoa.... I don't know man !!! It's really up to you........ but If I were you, I might consider used RRR ( mtx4 look alike ).

However.... If you want to join the club, then go ahead......... mtx3 is still a good reliable car. Honestly I love my 3 than my 4.

.... that small ? no offense okay......

I think Christ West's Setup is yours.

Buy Zac Kawahara 37 front or 35 rear ( 6 spokes ).
A type Ackerman Steering Plate
B or C rear block, must try....
Inboard Rear Upper Link Plate, lowest hole.
Front Diff 10K
Rear Diff 30K

Just wondering, how do you love the 3 more than the 4 or are you just use to the 3 more or something? No kyosho parts here and so welp it just buy my friend's mtx3 or stay with my R40. I'm debating on whats best for me at this time dealing with recently shortened work hrs (damn new competition), and school. Still need to order a setup board and probably a tire truer.

It's my first serious nitro cars....... personal reason, don't bother.

Compare to R40, mtx3 maybe it's okay. If you have extra money.... I suggest go for mtx4 and you are set ! You will appreciate what you buy today.

Cool,

I use to live in Jpn...near Tachikawa. Which track is that? Have you been to "GP tekuno" in Iruma....Great little track, looks a little bigger than that one. Also, do you frequent the stores in Akihabara? "Supre Radi-Con" is great...they have EVERYTHING.

I live in Yokohama area, and sadly, there is no track near my place so i have to go to this small track in Tokyo, its in Kichijoji, on the rooftop of Yuzawaya Dept. Store...just a practice track coz as far as I know, they dont hold races there...RC shops, i visit maybe twice a month, Champ, Rakusei, Futaba Sangyo, Super Radicon, got my X4 from Champ, Masa-san is very good guy to talk to...helps me a lot what to buy and what not to....
