help with HPI RS4-3 conversion to R40
I know I'm fairly new here but I need some advice..
I have a HPI RS4-3 that I've hopped up and still have a huge
list of mods that I want to do to it.
IE: threaded shocks $40, CF shock towers $60, heavy duty
drivetrain/final gears $25/constant replacement of spurs and
pinions $20/MIPS CVD for front & rear $45.
All this comes standard on a R40.
After all the threads I've read, and my current mod list...
I feel that I should just sell the RS4-3 and get a R40.
It doesn't make any sense to me anymore to upgrade the
RS4-3. If I'm going to spend $150-160 to make the RS4-3
tunable and adjustable, wouldn't spending the money on
a R40 be better? Yes, I know that I'm just a parking lot basher
but wouldn't we all want the adjustments of a NTC3 without
blowing money on a RS4-3? I mean seriously... Even after all
the money you spend on a RS4-3, it still won't hold a candle
to other kit cars.
What I want to know is if my OS .18 CV-RX/rotarty carb/side exhaust/ engine will fit on to a R40 kit.
If it does... I have no problem selling my RS4-3.
If not... I don't think I'll switch over

That doesn't make sense to me.
Wouldn't it be as simple as to buy a rotary linkage system
vs buying a new slide carb?

I am sure NO ONE will argue with me about the following opinion.
(1) Sell the RS4 and get the R40 (or buy the Japanese version R40 2004 spec with almost all the necessary options standard in the package - About $385 shipped from HK or Japan) you cannot convert a RS4 to R40, period....car is 99% different then RS4 except some screws.
(2) Sell your OS 18 CVR and get a real 12 engines (non pull start).
(3) Buy a real race ready 12 engine will slide carb, rear exhaust and SG crank...(again, non pull start and get a starter box.)
(4) Give up that rotary carb conversion, rotary carb does not performs as good as slide carb, it is a fact.
(5) Side exhaust does not performs as good as rear exhaust, it is another fact.
If you listen to the above 5 factors, you will have a pretty fast RC car to race or bash for under $600 (excluding radio and other stuffs...)

How much do you think I can get rid of a RS4-3
with wolfgang chassis, wolfgang 2 speed, wolfgang steering arms with bearings, OS CV-RX .18?
The more I look at the R40, the more I like it.
It even has a centax clutch standard.
Gawd, I shoulda just bought the R40 from the get go.

I've had a RS43 Type SS before and currently have a R40. But I felt the same way hopping the hell out of my RS4 3 (RB C12 engine, wolfpack chassis, wolfpack two speed, oh the dough put into that!). So I sold it and got a used Yoke GT4 to practice on the track with. And like the guys had already said, you can't convert the RS4 3 to an R40.
In regards to your OS engine, if it's a standard thread and side exhaust it will not work on a r40 kit. You could probably get a clutch and sg conversion kit from someone like wolpack radicals, but you still have the side exhaust to deal with. And I don't know anyone who has a side exhaust header that can apply to a R40 kit.

But now I'm starting to realize the rotary carb issue and
SG crankshaft issue.
How much do you guys think I could get for my RS4-3?
Also, everything on my car is literally a month old.
New engine, new wolfpack everything.

How much to sell it? This may help as a starting point.
Well I sold mine to a buddy for $140.00 usd. I gave it to him for 140.00 because I'm always "borrowing" parts from him and he never asks for me to replace them. This is what it came with

RB C12 turbo engine (it had about 3 gallons, and I foolishly ported and polished it myself) Still runs though.
One way front diff

The R40 kit comes with an adapter so you can use a standard threaded crank with the car. The slide carb and side exhaust can also work.
The real question is wheather you want to keep your old engine or get a new one.

is NEW. I mean only a few weeks new.
It's an OS .18 CV-RX, standard threaded crankshaft,
rotary carb, side exhaust.
If I can somehow get this engine to work..
I'd sell my RS4-3 in a heartbeat and get the R40 chassis.

I think that if you are just bashing that you should keep the RS4-3...the shaft drive will come in handy in paking lots...
