Default Question about total cost of a new build

I'm looking at building one of the following cars and would like to know what I can expect for total cost. I don't have to have a top of the line motor (I'm not that good) but I don't want to cut too many corners so if you can recommend upgrades in the build it would also help. I'd like to know what it would cost to get the car on the track. I only want to do this once so if it costs a little more to get the necessary upgrades then I'll do it.

Serpent 966
Capricorn 801
Xray RX8

Serpent 966
Capricorn 801
Xray RX8
I would go tords the xray route for durability the Capricorn car I very good but it is a fragile car I don't like the serpent it's a good car though for a beginner the xray or mugen would be the best.

Engine wise I wou look a novarossi 35 plus or the new picco torque the 35 plus is as just as good as the new $700.00 engines

You can make a search to the Mugen MRX4X. It is a very good car and a new kit can be found for just 300 dollar.

I looked at the mrx4x but I'd really rather stay with the latest and greatest. The Xray looks good but it looks like the other manufacturers have more aluminum and carbon parts. I will say that I haven't heard many (if any) negative comments on the Xray. If I get the basic Xray kit how much will it cost to finish it? I'm thinking about 12-1300 dollars (including the kit). Any suggestions on electronics? I'll use my spectrum radio so I can save a little money there.

The Serpent is a TANK! Trust me, I've put it through hell, and still in one piece For motor, look for the Novarossi Kangaroos, great motor at a great price.

until it hits an xray, then the xray is the stronger tank.

From what I'm hearing it sounds like Xray is the way to go.

You're going to pay more for less. With the Serpent you dont need any hopups, you need all kinds of lightweight option with the xray. Plus its all old tech, nobody else uses plastic bulkheads anymore. Get the Serpent and you wont regret it. But hey, its your money, spend it how you like it.

P.S. And no, the Serpent is stronger than the Xray.

I think these cars are harder to break :

Mugen Seiki MRX4R, MRX4X, then Xray RX8.

EDIT : back to your original question. I think you are looking to spend $1,800 to $ 2,200. Don't go economy for electronics, especially buying servos. Don't buy too many hop up options.

Default My two cents worth

I'm running an Edam Razor 2. Because I'm so far from a track, I haven't gotten to run as much as I'd like but I noticed in practice I wasn't giving up anything to the other cars. I'm running an S&H 21 which seems to provide all the oomph the car can handle, and the beauty of it is I'm running it on a shoestring budget (daughter starts college this year, oh boy.) Nothing against the others, they are proven cars, but this thing looks like theirs, seems to run like them as well, but doesn't carry the price tag. An added plus, I let a friend of mine drive one, I think on his second lap he had an oopsie (fairly new driver to the hobby) and didn't so much as scratch the car (screwed up the body pretty good tho.)
