The 4-tec & the Ofna Z-10 were rated #3, a tie in RCCA mag recently. But for repairs the Z-10 is easier to work on.
Both can be had in the $299.00 area. Get what your LHS has parts for.

While the 4-tec is in his price range and overall a good beginner's car, I've found that Traxxas engines are a little tempermental for many newbies. My vote would be for the Ofna Nitro OB4 RTR. It's a little more expensive upfront (around $360), but it's an excellent entry level car and can be easily (and cheaply) upgraded to a "pro level" car when the time comes. However, I agree with Foger Rox, get what the LHS has support for.

What, a nitro engine thats tempermental!!!!!!! LOL! I have the Ofna OB4 RTR. Its a good track track car no doubt, I love it. But the Pivot balls have to be kept in the right adjustment. He he he he , next week i'm going to meet up with a guy who runs an Impulse, I'll see if I can stay with him.

I have an OB4 (non RTR) as my first Nitro TC for experimental basis. The car performs just like other competitive tourers out there but then you need more maintenance and parts are not as durable as the top notch tourers. You will get what you paid for. However, if you have the right settings and skill you can out run the top notches without doubt.

I have a few frineds saying OB4 sucks. The parts don't fit and ends up not doing a good job building it.
How come its so cheap with grahpic deck, threaded shocks, and even with engine, tuned pipe? And its only 180US??
There must be something!

Cuz the manufacture wants you to buy their up grade parts! all the bulkheads and pully mounts are all made out of soft nylon, with the slightest tension on the drivetrain would deform them.

M5: have you ever seen a entry level/RTR car as hopped up as MTX2 or serpent impluse? i dont think so!

999:
Nono, you have the experience that you can't fit the fuel tank because the chassis holes don't match the ones on the tank?
This happens to OB4.
And what are you talking about ''have you ever seen a entry level/RTR car as hopped up as MTX2 or serpent impluse''??
MTX-2 sports, for example, didn't you noticed about this car?

I didn't say OB4 is not hopped up, all I'm trying to say is they don't make good parts.

I did say skills that matters , who won't agree to that?
