Very nice Dan, easy to save to ‘phone’ for ‘pit reference’ for the Serpent guys. 😎

Ok so I've got the brand new xli gearbox built and finally installed, and including the aluminium blocks.

As you can see in the photo, the screw holding down the black bracket (close screw on photos left) touches the 2nd gear housing. Manual says only one shim at the other end of the shaft. Should I be shimming this end too?
I've triple checked and triple rebuilt it, always having it touching. I built exactly as per manual with one 0.2mm shim on the front end of shaft, not this end.

Any help would be great!!

Should there be any play at all on either of the gears on the shaft or should I shim both ends to remove any play?

Aside from that I really wanna get this right to run it this weekend!

Thanks in advance.

Mine is the same, but I have never had ant issues.

🤔 It's weird. I'll give it a run I suppose and see how it goes.
Did you just shim the shaft as per manual or add any?

I move one shim from front to back to clear the screw from touching the 2nd gear housing. Don't run it with the screw touching the housing.

I couldn't remember so I took it apart, and I have a shim in the front and the back. It looks closer in the pic because of the angle.

Thanks guys
I have an 0.2mm in the front only (as per manual). Should I simply do two 0.1mm one in front one in rear? Or did you keep the 0.2mm in front and add another in the rear? If so what size? I figure I should keep just the tiniest bit of play (less than a shim's thickness of play) like any clutch shimming. Great to know I'm not alone and it's not a defective part.

I used a 0.2 in the front and the back.

It does depend on how your two speed gearbox has gone together. Usually with the stock shimming there is plenty of forward and aft play so you can add a 0.1mm shim in the rear and see how you go. You can move the shims about until you like what you have - just make sure you maintain some forward and aft play to keep the stress on the bearings low and the transmission nice and free.

Hello from France,

I ran for past weeks this option and it works great!!!

It replace the carbon fiber plate and gives good flex.

That improves steering and driving is very smooth.

Default Serpent dominates SWCS round 1 TQ and win

Car was on rails using the new GQ tires! Set track qualifying record and had a perfect main!

15g per wheel lighter than sweep and 28g lighter than taher!

Ultra soft after one qualifier and the main.
