I started putting my new car together, but the front arms bind pretty bad on the pins. Even reaming them out doesnt seem to fix it. I ordered a set of arms and its the same. Has anybody else noticed this?

Are you over tightening the front set screws?

My arms are tight; but once fully assembled both arms drop fully under their own weight with no slop. Hope this helps. Which arms are you talking about uppers? lowers? or both?

Pass you soon....

No, it also happens if you hold the pin in your hand.

Lower arms. Without anything else but the arms they should drop on their own weight. What i noticed is if you insert the pin it goes in smooth until about half inch from the other side then it gets tight. If you flip the pin to the other side it will go in smooth again to about half inch. Basically it binds at the ends. Its almost as if the arms arent true to themselves.

Anyway, its seems as this is normal and a couple minutes on the track will free them up.

I know what you are talking about; this will go away after your first run with the car. With a new kit and virgin plastic I check this with everything assemble. ie... upper arms and steering knuckles attached. You haven't got there yet, make sure you don't overtighten the cups that secure the Anti-rollbar pivot balls. that will cause binding.

Pass you soon...

Just finished building my 747. Super impressed with the quality and step forward Serpent has taken (I built 2 x 733s in the past).

-Instruction and bags nicely organized.

-Plastics fit perfectly (I had no issues with tight fittings or slop)

-Everything is lightweight and minimal! Fastest kit I have ever built.

-Big improvement with smoothness of diffs

-Shocks are awesome, the newer plastic bladders and o-rings make it very easy to get consistent rebound.

Only negative is the ball end cups. Getting the turnbuckles into some of these was a mission lol!

Looking forward to hitting the track soon.

Anyone have any issues lining up a Nova Keep On 100%?

I can't put any more shims behind the cone, as I will not have enough gap left to play with.

But it looks like 1st/2nd gear spurs are spaced alittle wider than 1st/2nd gear pinions - there seems to be an excessive gap between the spur gears.

Pinions are on correctly - just to confirm, the 1st gear pinion number faces outwards, whilst the 2nd gear pinion number faces the engine.

Based on your pics I think your okay. Looks like you got 100% of second and about 90% of 1st gear. The only thing I would check is look at the underside of the car and make sure your pressure plate does not touch the chassis when the clutch engages. You can only shim the cone away from the engine so much. The slot for the flywheel is a lot smaller on the 747 chassis when compared to the 733 chassis.

Pass you soon...

Michael_T, please no disrespect, you engine looks real slanted. The gears might not be 100% lined up if you can straighten the engines, but you might get 95% or more on the gears centering, take a look please,

Can you press the sprag clutch throught the spur hub? The gap between the two spurs looks bigger the the gap between the pinons.

first gear spur will always have some end float. but i think 2nd gear needs to be further out on the pinion, not by much. what i would do is add more shims to the cone before the flywheel, and sand down your thrust bearing retainer a bit to still be able to get a clutch gap and end play.
