My "Angry" Hpi rs4 3evo+

Dear bros,i brought a hpi rs4 3evo+ gtr 35 for 3 wks and till now i dont even have a chance to play it becos the moment i bring home to break-in. i am unable to start it up-maybe 100 pulls for 2 starts?Went online and try the ways others recommend such as not flooding the engine, check glow plug working and yup it stills fail.So i went back to my LHS and they send the car back for repair since they cant solve the issue too. So the company that repair my car said that its working fine just that its a new engine thats y its hard to pull...for goodness sake i had 3 blisters on my fingers becos of the pulling...haha cos of that..:flaming:

So i gotten back my car yesterday hoping that its at least better but to realized my chassis plate was scratched  but anyway its better to pull start now but another issue comes in again..after i started the car,all needles untouched throttle trim to center but it went full speed ahead(i didnt touch any thing ) with lots of lots of smoke and oil coming out from the exhaust.so I turn the idle and lsn but nothings improving so i turned it back to default.

Thank you for reading such a long post.now any one can really help me out with this ? thanks !

your engine is pretty rich, good for breaking in

But y does it start to run forward after i started it..its like full throttling running forward...the wheels are rolling and lots of smoke and oil spilling out...

Check for air leaks

so air leaks making it rolling forward by itself ??

When you start it up and its spitting lots of oil/smoke, is the engine rev'd high?

Pull the servo-throttle linkage off and readjust it so that the carb has the proper gap at idle. That was my problem for a while.

If the car is moving forward on its own then one of two things is going on:

Throttle linkage is not set right. Probably open too much at idle.
Or the clutch is engaging too soon (this could be because the engine is revving high due to your linkage setup. Don't confuse this by it running rich btw).

Fix throttle ,drive.have fun:nod:

CCW.

Make sure the low end is adjusted properly first before adjusting the idle.

but i haven do the break-in yet, when i pull start and the wheels just keep spinning already so have to adjust the hsn then the lsn then the idle after break in right ?

Ok, if you're still breaking in the engine the wheels should start to spin, that's normal (especially if it's off the ground). Not too much (like the engine is racing) that's no good. If it is racing then adjust the idle on the carb to almost closed but not to stall. If the idle still doesn't come down and the engine is still racing adjust the LSN CCW in small increments till the idle drops. If set correctly the wheels should still spin but not very fast. And the engine will sound quieter. Make sense?

BTW you shouldn't really have to play with the HSN at this stage. If it's still giving you grief it wouldn't hurt to richen that up by a 1/4 turn CCW.

,I will do it as soon as I gt the time,As for the clutch thing.can u explain to me hw it works? Thanks for the help

I'll assume this is the type of clutch you have in your EVO. I don't think HPI has really deviated from this style in the RS4 line. The clutch is a very important part of the engine and it can make or break a perfect setup. This link should explain in detail.

You didn't mention if this was a brand new car. If it is your shoes will have all three holes still in tact.

When your engine is broken in and adjusted properly so it idles nicely and doesn't bog when you accelerate you can start to tune the clutch to your driving style. You can't adjust externally so you'll have to pull the motor to make the changes. Note, once you cut the shoes you can't go back. Just buy some spares, I don't recall them being expensive. Also get a spring or two, they do stretch over time and can be damaged easily from constant removal and installing. They can stretch out too much.

FYI, when I had my HPI Type SS many moons ago I was using the third set of holes (so I cut off the other two). I found this gave the motor a nice launch off the line and didn't bog the engine before it took off. Of course I tried it stock first, then the second holes which was a bit better but I wanted more grab. The third holes gave me the sweet spot for the stock engine the kit came with.

See what works for you and your driving style.

Ok, going to bed now, racing tomorrow!
