RS4 3 EVO CONVERSION

M JUZ WONDERIN' F ANY OF U GUYS TRIED TO CONVERT YOUR HPI EVO 3'S TO HPI MT 2. IS IT POSSIBLE? ANY REPLIES WUD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED, TNX.

Clegg 12-28-2004 09:41 AM

yeh all thats different is the front/rear suspension. just buy all the replacement A Arms, shock tower, shocks, dogbones, and possibly hubs. Oh and the wheels and MT body.

Don't forget fellas that the Nitro 3 chassis is shorter than the Nitro MT chassis. Has anyone decided to make it into a rally car?

Rapid Roy 12-28-2004 09:58 AM

I think HPI has a FAQ about this conversion and the cost. I seem to remember that its almost cheaper to buy another kit.

shorter?

I am planning to get the Graphite Upper Frame and the Performance Filter very soon. I would think after exhaust, suspension would be the way to go.

Hope we can start a big thread on this car, even though it isn't the newest.

Get the alum shocks....the threaded ones from HPI(easy to set tweak).....next,the HPI super chassis.......and heres the one that made the biggest difference on my SS..The Graphite upper deck that allows you to use a flat receiver pack...If you are going to use the car with foams, get the Hot Bodies Graphite shock towers for foam tires.....The only thing I changed on the suspension was to go to HPI front uprights in alum......(the knuckles that hold the bearings)..if you can't get those from BUY HPI,get the Hot Bodies....

anyone used the Wolfpack Radicals chassis?? How is it compared to the HPI super chassis. I currently have the HPI super chassis but it is all scratched up and was thinking of replacing it soon. has anyone used the droop screws for either of these chassis as well....thanx

fastharry™ 12-29-2004 12:57 PM

Thats half the reason to get the chassis.....I set droop on all my cars...even the RTR EVO I won the HPI Challenge with had spacers in the shocks to control the droop that way..

It is possible but the truck body will look funny on it and the body mount holes will not line up with the dimples due to the shorter chassis. Plus, getting the parts to convert the RS4-3 will not be cheap (I converted a car from onroad to rally and it ran up an additional $100 in parts, not counting time and labor to make some special parts).

foam now

the hpi series would require us to use the rubbers, i am planning to use foams to see the car's potentials, but the foams were cut too thin i was only left with 2mm ride height , thus the body scrapes. Even without droop setting, the ride height cant be augmented and i already legthen the shocks, ANY BODY can show how to deal with this?

Rapid Roy 01-02-2005 02:11 AM

The only way to increase the ride height with the stock shocks is to unscrew the shock end. You know, the peice that screws onto the end of the shock shaft. You might also try some of the alternate shock ends for the super nitro or other kits that are longer. I do know that some of the racers in the box stock class were cutting down the shock shafts to lower the cars for better handeling. You can also add an internal spacer inside the shock to limit the droop or down travel of the arms.

Just reread your post. If you have already lengthened the shocks, try the longer ends. Have you added more preload spacers too?

silver_spo0n 01-02-2005 07:24 AM

shox

shox are longer now even without preload spacers, but the ride hgt did not change. Thnaks for that .
