HPI rs4 evo vs rs4 3 type ss?
Which one would be better for racing? The Type SS or the RTR evo? The SS comes with a .12 pull start with 1 hp, and the rtr cames with a rotostart .15 with 1.2 hp. the ss comes w/o a radio(which i want), and the evo comes w one. the ss comes with adjustable turnbuckles, while the evos are fixed. which one would be better for me for racing?

Better for racing:
The R40!
More adjustability, lower CG, better overall performance! The RS4 SS and Evo are basically the same car. If you must choose between these 2 I would go with the SS. That way you can add your own electronics instead of the RTR servos you'll get with the Evo. Plus the EVO .15 probably won't be legal at most racetracks. I have an RS4-3 that has alot of hop-ups and it's still not as adjustable as my stock NTC3. If you want to stick with HPI and be competative I would go with the R40. It might cost a little more to get running at first, but you'll thank yourself in the long run. |
well, for racing you would really need a 75mhz band radio. with a 27mhz radio there is only 6 channels to use. on the 75 mhz there are 30. when you get to a track to race and another racer is on your channel you'll have to switch to another. so you would not really get any advantage with the radio that comes with the evo. i have a 12rss and the t-15, the 12rss seems to run better and is easier to tune. with the adjustable turn buckles, you would need a camber and a toe gauge. or you would need a set-up jig, such as a "hudy set-up station" or there are other brands as well. with the adjustable turn buckles they will have to be checked after hitting a wall, or another car. the ss does come with both fixed and adjustable turnbuckles. both cars are easy to work on since they are both basicly the same car.

ya i think i will stick with the ofna ld3 pro, much better. almost same car as the ntc3.
|
why buy an "almost" car..get the tc3......at least its a PROVEN race winner.....
|
ya but the ld3 comes with an engine, a pretty good one too.

Best way to improve the car is to get a R40. From what I have witnessed from every in my local racing area that has the car, don't waste time or monies trying to improve it. It is a flawed design (taken from the Nitro MT) that HPI should have improved before releasing it in car form. If you plan on just playing with the car, it is fine. If you plan on racing, get the R40 or another car.

invested
i have invested so much in it. I cant let it go since it's the only car in our place with a "CHALLENGE" series.
it's got the ff: 12R XS engine (equivalent of 12TR) hot bodies chassis, uprights, 2 speed, universal propeller shafts, universal dog bones graphite shock towers, rpm cups one way front and trophies to boast: 1 3rd, 1 pc champ, 1 pc. 2nd and i just broke A855 part in the rear diff... |
Thought about it
i thought about getting this car, because its in kit form and I wanted to build. But im deciding against it because you just get so more "car" in the Associated RTR Plus, even though it is an RTR. Its more read in RTR form than an SS can ever be even hopped up.

Amen to that BadKarma. I have a nitro rs4 and sorry to break the news to you but no matter what you do to it you wont be able to compete with any of the better cars given the same circumstances and equal driving skill. I ended up with getting a yokom gt4 rtr and dispite it being a much older design it blew the doors off of my rs4 with the same o.s. engine.

By the way... this isnt the same badkarma that plays Soldier of fortune is it?
