As they say, 90% of the set up is tire choice. All the rest are for fine tuning.

I am running the older version of the RS4-3 and loving it. although I have my NTC3 and Serpent 710 lying around...

It is a very neutral car and relatively easy to drive....
Upgraded to some heavy duty tranny parts and that's it... Other then that, it is stock.

I am running foam and 1 degree rear toe is what I am using. I tried the 2 degree toe and found that it would cause understeer.

Front diff filled with 'Mugen Super Grease' and rear with only half the front diff amount.

Almost zero toe up front.

Anyone out there tried using rear exhaust engine on this kit?
I tried it with RB X12 5 ports.. But the results were out of my expectations... It seems like the engine couldn't rev as it should be. I don't know whether it's the pipe or the header causing the problem....
So I ended up with another RB ... C12 3 ports.... side exhaust....
And in the straights this little mill can outrun those belt kits with JPs or 5 ports Nova or RBs...

And this really sends me and my buddies scratching our heads or even our balls...
Anyone had similar case? Is it the rear exhaust header is too long??

Well anyone who was curious as to how I fared, I didnt fare at all. I got to the track late, and the first heats were already underway. There was a good turnout this week at TFB Raceways and I basically let myself be intimidated by the level of competition. I decided to remain a spectator this time around.

Ill give it a go in two weeks as I will be out of town this coming weekend. But I will try to do a whole lot of practicing in between time.

jayjayy,

You added a bit of aluminum to your ride. You are still competive with the extra weight???? I could use the durability because my driving skills are pretty terrible right now! I have yet to go to the track and not break something before I leave. I ripped off the whole right rear arm and tire last night!

This is what it is strange about. With all stuff all in, it weighs about 1800++ without the body. SO all in all will be 1900gms.

It does outrun a lot of cars as mentioned... but it doesn't really fair to well in quick corners... I am experiencing severe on power understeer and it doesn't seems to respond fast enough in those high speed s curves..
I am still doing some experiment with the settings.

Alloy arms? I didn't wanted to use it but I couldn't get the composite arms or nylon arms offered by HPI... All I can get is the normal standard arms which I think it flex too much till the extend of distorting the suspension settings. And I ended up getting the alloy ones... It is tough though!

The only weak point at the meantime is the rear hub... During hard collision, one will give way.. hence the rear hub will always the one giving the way. It is still better the breaking the alloy arms right?...
In a nutshell, keep more of those rear hubs....

Are you still running the stock gears?
And does the 18 SS kit comes with HD Ring and pinion gears?

You car is too heavy because of all the aluminum parts you have on it. Most racers try to stay away from aluminum unless its abolutely necessary for strength. In general, aluminum A arms are a no no for racing. They don't break, but you can't detect a slightly bent a arm, and having one bent will play havoc with your handeling.

Yes I am still running the stock gears although I have already purchased alternate gear setups. Im not good enough for it to make a difference for me yet, so Ill keep running the stock gears for now.

Not sure what you mean by HD?

Here's a good general setup for HPI cars running rubber tire.

Front:
0 degrees toe in
1 Degree camber
4.5 to 5.5 mm ride hight
50 wt shock oil
Stock springs
Stock shock piston

Rear:
1.5 degrees camber
5.5 mm ride height
50 wt shock oil
white (softer) springs
Stock shock piston

For Foam tire use 1 to .5 degrees more camber.
Is this poitive camber \ / or negative camber / \?????

HD is heavy duty

Camber is almost always negative camber. At least thats my assumption

/--\ like this. Tops should be tipped inward.

Rapid Roy, thanks for the clarification.

jayjayy,

No I believe the gears are the standard gears. I think the only upgrade to the kit was the .18 engine and the new body style choices and a better diff spring.

Yes, I do agree rapidboy that aluminium arms havoc where you can't notice it when it is bent...
But I can't source for a stiffer arms.. Anywhere or part# that I can get apart from those standard arms?

gfd2726, are you running the same tyre width from and back?
How's the setting and hadling like?
I normally run front 26mm and rear 30mm.. same shore number...

I am running 43T - 37T spur and 18T - 24T pinion in my local track with long straight.

Anyone using the clutch type 2 speed tranny?

Yes, I am running the same width front & back 26mm (at 40 shore). It handles great! If I put 30mm at the back it'll rub against the manifold...

Try the carbon fiber ones from HPI.
