Default Protoform Alfa Romeo 2.1 Opinions

I'm going to start racing again after a one year break. Went to the LHS to buy some parts and left with the parts and a Protoform Alfa 2.1 thinking it should be good. Anyways, i'm having second thoughts. Seems like everybody runs the Protoform Mazda 6 nowadays and i'm thinking I should get that also.

So, before I go out and waste gas and time just to go to the LHS again and trade in the Alfa for the Mazda 6, I would like to see your opinions on the Proto Alfa 2.1.

I did a search and didn't find too much info on the 2.1.

BTW, I race on a technical PL track.

Thanks in advance.

The Alfa has more steering. Unfortunately it's not because of more front downforce, it's because the rear is looser.

I must say I have a lot more experience with the MAzda and it's very versatile. You can tune the handling quite a bit with the position of the rear wing and body itself.

Default YIKES!!

Loose rear not good. Our track gets slippery when the track gets 130+ degrees.

Looks like i'm trading in the Alfa for the Mazda.

Thanks!

Have to admit that while the guys at Proline help me out, I do not love that body for nitro touring. The Mazda 6 is definitely more stable and while the Cadillac has a lot of steering I found it to be quite a bit more predictable (thereby making it better) than the Alfa 2.1

The Mazda is the absolute best body out there right now, it just GOES faster.

Trading between a Stratus 2.1 and the Mazda 6, without changing anything else, my car, on our track was .3 secs faster.

Default mazda 6 at recent worlds..

from the looks of pics in the worlds forums i would estimate roughly 80 % of the participants chose mazda 6...

and plus i think all the a main finalist used that body...

No kiddin'! It doesn't end. It's permanently in the blood I guess.

Anyways, I traded in the Alfa for the Mazda today but while I was there, the HPI Stratus Aero II caught my eye and I almost bought it instead. Good thing I didn't cause like you all said the Mazda works and is proven. The last thing I need at my first race is a unbalanced car.

Thanks!

How about Nemesis?
I have one but have no time to paint it.

The nemesis is not Roar legal, therefore I won't try it. I would be interested in hearing how it works though.

So Mazda handles better than Alfa. But thank God in full scale cars, reverse superiority is true!

BTW,the aero body works really well also.....could use a tad more steering, but ,makes my R40 unspinnable....

Cheers

I have the alfa body 2.1, it is very good at steering, but from what I see at the track the mazda 6 is sure is fast, but it could be 99% the driver

Am I correct to assume some non-roar bodies are more-aerodynamic and faster on higher speed tracks with long straights. For example bodies like the Saleen with wedge shaped front end, more angled windshiled and lower roof line?
