If you switch to the 15T first and adjust your 2-speed to shift a little earlier, then you may need the 21T second to carry you the length of the straight. But did you notice how late Mike and the gang were shifting on the straight? Not sure if it was finger controlled or just adjusted that way. But they really reved out 1st gear. Painfully high.

Robert,
I have two weeks of class left so I am starting to get my car ready for go racing. What is a good starting point for car set up for the rrr?
Thanks.

I'm trying to adjust my 2 speed to shift sooner, so I'm going to take it apart and put it together again. Any idea on how many turns I should go when putting in the screws??

Interesting. Thanks for pointing that out. I haven't adjusted 2nd gear yet, so I'm shifting half-way down the straight on 3 screw turns out. We'll see where it shifts with the 15T.

I really didn't think to take notice of where the guys where shifting - I was too mesmerized by the driving. If they kept the MTX-4 kit gearing, it's 17/59 for 1st and 23/53 for second (WCE is 16/59 and 20/55). I'm thinking the high revs must have been by choice, because adjusting it would have been a no brainer for those guys. Maybe they didn't have any other gears with them.

rainer,
my experience with the 15t gear is that it is only good on a very small tight track. also, it is super quick so you have to be very smooth on the throttle. and the kyosho 15t ones get sharp, pointy edges quickly, so you have to replace it very often. if you are going to run the 15t, they kawahara one works way better. i think the stock gears work very well for most tracks. my .02

If you are stating that the WCE stock gearing is 16/59 & 20/55 it is not
The stock gearing is 16/61 & 21/56 if they were using that gear set up that is why they were winding out early

I see it now. Page 34. My bad! I was misinterpretting the exploded view. Duh! Thanks for correcting me. The guys rskoncepts and I are talking about are running the MTX-4.

The first thing I noticed about the 15T is that it is very pointy. http://shopping.rcmodel.hk/images/pr...y-vz214-15.jpg

I guess the question is, what do you consider a tight track? We have 12-14 turns and the distance from one turn to the next ranges anywhere from 12 - 50 ft apart, averaging maybe 20ft, depending on how it's layed out for that day. The entire track is only 200x60 ft. But I hear what you are saying. It's very possible that I have to change it back to the 16T after running a few practice laps. Maybe I'll just buy a second clutch bell and make life easy for myself - run the 15/21 and if it doesn't go well, just swap back the 16/21.

yeah, i would have two clutch bells. the smallest track i ran on, i tried the 15t gear and i got better lap times with the 16 so i used that. it was probably quite similar to the track you described.

Joe: Would you say that you had better throttle control with the 16 versus the 15 - or did the increased acceleration throw off your driving? What do you think made the difference?

i had better throttle control with the 16t. the 15t was a little too nervous in areas of the track when you are making quick turns. the difference was that the 15t was too quick in very short sections with a bunch of small turns
