Default Nitro RS4 Questions.

Just curious as to whether an original Nitro RS4 , that I bought in 1995, can be raced competitively against the more modern cars out there. The car has been upgraded with Nitro RS4 2 suspension components and an HPI .12R SS engine and tuned pipe and it's really in nice shape. I can say that with the stock set up it doesn't even handle well on the street. I'm assuming this can be fixed with some attention though. Any info appreciated.

Thanks,

Tommy

I was going to dig out my old nitro rs4 racer this year as well. I know the 1/10th gas touring car class can be very competitive just like any form of racing. My goal with it is to just to show up, have fun, not break much.

As far as handling, there's enough out there to make it handle. Spring, sway bars, Tires... And it doesn't hurt to ask your local racer.

The way it stands now my car handles very good

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention that it has a 2 speed. Is this legal?

Upon further investigation, it appears that I upgraded it to RS4 Racer 2 specs, give or take a minor detail or two (missing roll center plates) . I think I'm going to give racing a shot with this rig. What's the worst that could happen????

I was in the same boat with a TC3 and after two races even with sway bars, comp motor, and high end tires...couldn't really compete. Turned around and bought a used NT1 and now i am having the time of my life being and to race and compete with some sponsored racers. I wouldnt dump any money into it if your are serious about it. Save the money and buy a used NT1, Mugen, Kyosho, or Serpent

1995 is around the time I got back into RC. Had a RS4 2, I have had a NTC3, and I have had a HPI R40.

All I can say is don't waste your money putting money into your Original RS4. Even if you mod it out the wazoo, you still won't be able to compete with the cars on today's market. If driving skills are similar, the new breed on nitro touring cars, new meaning anything developed as a car that is built for racing will have the advantage over the orig RS4. It's really built for bashing around.

Only way to find out is to give it a go on the track. If your just looking to have a good time racing then go for it!!! A few hop-ups for the RS4 will cost you 1/4 of the price to upgrade to a new car. I have a NTC3 and I never have a problem keeping up with the newer cars.
