Thanks. I got it earlier, there must have been an issue with my browser, it was not showing the bottom portion of the page. Any of you guys race at 301 Raceway in Maryland?

Default My first XR-8 from PRP

XR8 Build-up step by step

I built it and went thru hell and back with this kit.

its looks and handles well, BUT instructions are crap.

1. Many parts do not fit like they are suppose to and modifications got to be done to make them fit.

2. In many sections on the instructions things are explained backwards specially centax clutch and 2 speed transmission.

3. The kit is been advertised as having front and side belt adjustments. In reality the car has no front belt adjustments, I called PRP and all they said that it was a typographical error; immediately I raised the BS flag...

4. For being the kit which is being called the racer ready version with all the bells and whistles its ridiculous the right side rear chassis brace and aluminum brake level are sold as option parts. If you sell me the top of the line it better have all the goodies from the box. So, by those 2 parts and you are almost scraping the price tag of a Serpent 950R.

Went to the hobby shop and told them about what the kit advertises, but that in fact it has no front tensioner... Hobby shop replied with "What do you expect for a kit that costs half of a Serpent...?" Once again, hobby shops with mediocre customer support, by the way it is Doll House in San Rafael California. I told them how the hell I am going to adjust it because it has no adjustments factory recommendations... Doll House responded to download Serpent Evolva manual for factory settings; ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WT!!

Good Luck

If you need a print out version let me know, I got the instructions of the XR-8 Kit.

By the way, mine had 2 or 3 parts missing and called PRP for replacement and they charged me the shipping and handling. I tell you, I did an inventory of every part and no parts or bags were thrown away until the end of the build up.

I learned my lesson, although is a great car that handles superb and runs great for the price, customer support is crap plus instructions and settings are next to none.

Default XR8 link

For some reason the pics dont work if you follow this link.

If you go to the other website do a search for XR8 and find my thread and it will work perfect.

Because of this I will open a thread soon with much more pics, maintenance and troubleshooting of most parts on this thread.

Default Xr8

I have an xr8 and a mrx4r that i took to the track last week. I ran both in practice and i have to say i had a hard time trying to decide which one to race. I ended up running the mugen because the motor and clutch setup was better. The xr8 works as well as any of the top cars if setup right.

Default XR-8

I aggree 100%.
I have the XR-8 with a Rex 321P engine, and also a new Evlova with a C5 engine, and the XR8 handles almost as well as the Evolva.
I have noticed that the XR8 has much more steering than the Evolva, and when the track is not up to par, I will run the XR-8 due to the steering, and bite that the car has.
As I have said, these cars are very under rated

Brc358, would you mind sending me some set up info on the car? I plan on running it at the next RAMS fun race and need a starting point on the set up. Thanks.

Default New !/8 XR8

Here is the set-up I use
Front springs Mugen white
Front oil 50wt
Front sway bar standing up
Front caster clips all the way to the front
Front camber 2
Front toe out .05 each side
Front ride height 5 to 6mm
Rear springs Mugen red
Rear oil 40 wt
Rear camber 3
Rear toe in 3
Rear ride height 6 to 7mm
Mugen clutch,spring,flyweights and heavy spring
The Kyosho "Dome" body works great with this set-up. Lots of steering.
Tires depending on track. 38 to 45
I run either a Rex 321P engine, or the Kangaroo engine. 9886 pipe.
This should get you close to what you need. You may have to change the rear toe in, and rear camber. If you want to carry more speed into the corners, increase your rear toe in to 4.
Change you tires according to the track conditions.
Good luck, and let me know how you like this set-up.

rear toe 3' - that is a lot, it would scrap off a lot of speed on straights.

How much front and rear droop are you on?

Thanks brc358. If everything goes as planned, I should have some laps on the XR8 on may 6th at RAMS. I'l be running a protoform body though.

Default New XR8

I have run up to 4 on the rear toe at times. It helps carry more speed through the corners.
I run droop front 1 to 2 rear 7 to 8
I also run the Protoform body at times. I probably have a total of 15 to 18 different bodies between my XR8 and my Evolva depending on the tracks and how the bodies and wings are mounted on the cars.
I have some of the exact bodies, that are mounted more forward than the other identical bodies for the down force. It just depends on so many factors.

good luck

Wanabrc,
I see your XR8 in the for sale thread. Are you selling you car, or a spare car

It's a spare. I have the hopped up parking lot runner almost ready for the track. By the way, did you say 15-18 bodies!?!
