Thanks for the width data.
If you are using the Lipo with no voltage control device, I would recomend it (the Novak). 7.4 volts is too much for most servos.
The Spektrum rx is rated to handle above 7.4, but it does not regulate voltage output to servos. The Novak unit is equiped with a switch (it seems like a pretty good one).

Great info guys, I too am intersted in Li-po power for my XR80 reciever. I'm also curious as to how it will do with the new JR DSM system. I'm hoping to eliminate glitching, and channel conflicts in one purchase...

Well, R40.
Li poly's are the way to go just having to find the right combo is tedious. The Jr radio I beleive you are refering to is the clone of the Helios correct. I am not up to date with JR products, sorry. I never had much luck with them either..

The new JR is the Z1 & is a re-packaged helios w/synthesized module and rx.
No DSM (yet). All tho it is in the works for later on.
Horizon also has introduced the Spektrum DX3. Which is a re-packaged JR xs3 (older model). It is DSM & includes the Spektrum rx module, z590 & z270 servos. Spektrum dsm is built-in to tx (no module). These are out now (I have them in stock). The JR Z1 is not yet available. It will go for about $250 including full synthesized stuff---no crystals.

As far as LiPo rx packs go... Very hard to find one that will fit in the space provided. No problem in Evolva or Delta. They were designed accept a larger pack. The one Raul found is no longer available from Great planes. You might be able to find one in stock somewhere! They have not been discontinued for very long. Newer LiPo's are leaning toward the longer, skinnier dimensions. The only ones I have been able to find, that would fit the XR8, had less cappacity than the AAA packs.

Well, none of our mains excede 5 minutes, even for 8th scale(though we have done 15 minute mains for 10th nitro touring). I'll prolly just stick with the AAA pack, and not worry about voltage, a special charger, and trying to make something fit in a place designed for something else.

Yes, the DSM to wich I was refering is the new DX3. It looks a little strange, stepping backwards on the design. But if it's comfortable to hold, has all the features I want, and at a reasonable price...I'm in...

The DX3 feals fine, Nothing strange about it.
We run 30 min. mains in the midwest series. I experienced no difficulties with the AAA pack for that time. No change in servo performance at end of race.
You should have no problems running shorter races (or even longer ones).

The only reason I say strange, is because the design is a step backwards, looks just like the previous model. I assume they were rushing to market, and wanted to distinguish between it and the synthesized version, without a whole new layout...(time is money!)

One of my pit partners just got one, so I'll get a first hand look at it under race conditions. I'll report anything I find.

R40- I only meant Not strange as regards to 'feal' of the tx. I lost track of the fact that you used the word strange too.
Yes I think their use of the old JR case, was for expediance & cost. JR (or whoever molds the plastic cases) probably had a bunch left over. I imagine it saved Spektrum a lot of cash to buy them up and paint them silver.

Makes sense to me, and considering the impressive results so far, I'm very interested.

Default RAMS race results ( 7/10/05 )

Hey gang. The XR/8 did very well this past weekend for both drivers ( Kevin Jelich and Jimmy Deprez ). Its good to see the XR/8 pro finishing in the top 3 at a venue with such talented drivers. The lap times were very close from each other (.10-.40 seconds). Here is the results of the A-main in 1/8th scale on-road:

1) Scott Kimbrow - 92 laps ( Kyosho Evolva )
2) Kevin Jelich - 91 ( PRP XR/8 Pro )
3) Jimmy Deprez - 90 ( PRP XR/8 Pro )
4) Thello Jurdon - 89 ( Mugen MRX-4 )
5) Tony Vega - 84 ( Mugen MRX-4 )
6) Larry Stevens - 79 ( Serpent 950 )
7) Kevin Woods - 49 ( Kyosho Evolva )
8) Jonathan Lei - 35 ( Mugen MRX-4 )
9) Steve Perez - 34 ( Kyosho Evolva )
10) Eric York - 25 ( Kyosho Evolva )

Thanks Kevin and Jimmy for your continued support.

That's awsome...by any chance did any of the races get filmed? I've found so few 8th scale on road race videos...
