For what reason are the alu bulkheads a disadvantage?

Aluminium bulkheads have a lot more plusses than minuses.

-More designing possibilities
-Faster assembly, less chance on stripping threads
-Gives a strong assembly which is a lot less influenced by temperature

The only minus which I can think of are the costs.

The whole story about frequencies and vibrations, hasn't been backed up by actual theory. The issues with the MRX5 have a different cause (receiver placement)
All of the new generation aluminum cars are out performing their plastic predecessors.
The only company which still swears by plastic bulkheads is also the only one with their entire production in house, now you do the math.

The main features of the LAB-C801:

-Fully floating radiotray
-Self adjusting side belt tensioner
-Very open design
-Easy maintenance
-Super Lightweight design
-High quality shock absorbers
-Like the Lab C01 very reactive to setup changes

Aluminium bulkheads have nothing but advantages in my book. All the cars that we have had in the past had plastic bulkheads, with recurrent issues of stripped threads. We have an 8th scale and a Tourer; both with aluminium now, and I wouldn't want to go back. I'm not sure if the Aluminium is the reason, but the new cars are also much stronger; both have had some big hits without any signs of tweaked chassis.

Kindest regards,
Lars.

one of the reason i choose my 966 is for the aluminum rear bulkhead because of its strengths...if you look how fast these car running , how aggressive they grip & handle curves its just meaningful to go aluminum

I wasn't a big believer in the Al bulkhead deal either until I got a Shepherd. That car is amazing. Now maybe the bulkheads have something to do with it and maybe it doesn't but if you measure that car up, it's just an MRX4 in geometry, yet I like it MUCH better than my 4. So I'm not going to dis on them again until I find a plastic car I like better.

There is no flex in aluminium - when it takes a knock - it bends. While in the plastics you still have a chance for it to return to the original shape.

Floating top deck? Sorry I fail to see how that top deck can float ..

I have yet to bend any aluminum parts on my Shepherd and it has taken some BIG hits. Just ask anyone that saw my crash and smashed pipe from the nats.

The only damage, the pipe and three bent hinge pins.

You can finish a race with a slightly bent part. A broken bulkhead and you're out.

Mugen already did. Xray wont, they are masters of the plastics and can do it all in house.

This is a beautiful functional car. It will have one of the best clutches on the market! Kyosho have already started on their alloy car as seen on Collari's car in Miami. But this car is a real contender out the box!

We've had such big hits that it would most likely have pulled bolts out plastic bulkheads, but the aluminium didn't bend. I'm sorry; but I must disagree with you on this.

Floating is generally a term used to describe that the component is not bolted hard and fast to whatever, but most likely with something like flexible mountings.

Do I detect a bit of negativity from you against this car in your posts, or am I only imagining that?

Kindest regards,
Lars.
