I really like the concept of an electric 1/8 but until now all the offerings can't really match a nitro 1/8. I hope I can change this and come up with an electric car which can actually beat the nitro powered version over a 5 minute run!.

I'm using a completely new motor and esc system which has been developed specifically to use in a 1/8 onroad.
I've been working for more then a year on a conversion based on this system, as a base I will use the Capricorn LAB-C801.
Here some renders:

It took a while to get the correct carbon fiber for the chassis, I finally have the type I want and all the carbon fiber parts will be finished this month.

I would really like to know how you guys think about this!.

I'm currently waiting on an updated version of the motor/esc to arrive. This will combine the motor and esc to one unit and this gives a lot more room for the batteries. This will probably need a new radiotray design and maybe even a new chassis.

Quick question for everyone about a issue I'm having with brakes on the C801. I can have the brakes set and working well at the start of a main, but about half way thru say a 30 minute main they become grabby and more aggressive spinning the car out at every corner. I have played with radio and linkage settings thinking I had a problem there but it really seems the more the pads warm up the more aggressive they become. Anybody else run into this and come up with a solution.

Hi,

I haven't had the same problem. But maybe it's because I use the Mugen blue brake pads. I just cut them so they fit nicely.

Could be a solution, if you try them. As I said I don't have that problem.

Br,

Niko

Could be that since wheels get smaller the brakes become more powerful if you are using them to the almost locking limit when new, than its for sure the case.
happens to me but adjust it with ATL from the remote, half way through the race I decrease it whilst in pits.

Thanks for the tip and I think you are on to it. After taking the brakes apart it appears the standard pads are made from the red rulon material similar to the red clutch shoe. Thinking back several years, on a previous car, I made some brake pads for it from a left over rulon clutch shoe and had results similar to what I'm have with the Cap now. I guess all the properties that make Rulon a great clutch material make it a lousy brake material.

Finally found the time to complete my C801 in order to sell it.

You can find it here:

If someone wants additional info just let me know.

It probably is underweight. The ROAR minimum is 2450g coming from 2525g

This was mine, completely stock with regular servos, lipo battery and regular weight body:

So make sure you've got some weights ready to mount onto the car.

I use the stock brake pads

one thing that could be happing is tire wear, not brakes, as the tires get smaller in the main the brakes have a bigger mechanical advantage over the wheels and tires. making it seem like they get "stronger"

I adjust mine on pit stops during a main, example lets say my car is dialed in with a end point of 65 for max brake before the car might over brake and lock up, each pit stop I may have to reduce it 1 point or 2 points near the end.

This is just how I do it, others may be able to just adapt, I find it no big deal and have a button on my radio set just for this.
