While at Winternats we confronted Michael Slaven about it while enjoying some drinks at a bar, at the time this F180 was introduced at a hobby show in Europe. At the time, since it was just introduced, he was surprised that we knew about it already, but he simply said it is a concept and it is something Serpent is capable of producing if demand is there. The thing is Serpent seems to be reluctant to show it off on the internet on TSN (has anyone seen it on TSN?)

I've seen other pics of it out there with the body off. The engine is lay down as far as it could go. See if you can find those too.

Sorry, but it's old news.
Serpent released those photos in February of this year.
I posted some more pictures of it.

They have pictures of it up on MYTSN.
It's in the Veteq VIP room.
They also have a forum on it in there also.

if serpent makes this thing into a full production car, its gonna be my next rc! hmm mrx4, serpent indy car...??!!?? i like those black rimmed tires, i wonder if they'll fit serpents other 1/8 onroads, because i'd like to get a few, and switch from the ugly yellow ones. The front got me thinking, it looks almost like the front bottom part of the car has the body built right on the car! i wonder if the body is part of the car, where when u build the front suspension, you put a lexan piece with cutouts inbetween the arms? i dunno, looks pretty technical, i want some pics without the body on!

This was posted by Ronald Baar on 7-7-2004 on MYTSN.

The F180 is still a concept car.

We will do the 1st testing this month and if the test is OK, we will decide on the production and when !

We plan to make it with a .26 engine !

We will keep you posted through myTSN.com

You can actually come and see the car at the Birmingham show !

Serpent holds on to a promise....
Sneak preview for VETEQ owners
You asked for it, and here it is: a true 1/8 scale Formula One car by Serpent.

It may have taken some time but at least we deliver on an old promise made 2 years ago. We then told the VETEQ owners that we would work on suggestions a number of you made then to see if we could turn the VETEQ into a Formula One car.

Prototype
Well, this turned out a bit more complicated than what I thought back then. First we created a hand crafted model to look at the feasibility of such a project, and last November we decided to turn that concept-car into a real prototype which will go into testing phase early March. The prototype was finished just before the Nurnberg Toy Fair and was displayed to be photographed by the press. Nobody other than the Serpent distributors present in Nurnberg has seen anything of the actual chassis yet, nor were any pictures allowed from the chassis itself.

Testing in March
After testing the F180 (as it is called for now) we will decide whether we will actually produce the car. It must run very well of course, although this car is not aimed at the high-end competition market, but rather at the sports market. We expect many Serpent and especially VETEQ owners to be interested in this project. We are now working on ideas how to market and promote the F180. A non-conventional approach may suit this non-conventional product very well.

A few technical details
A few things can be revealed about the F180. It features the VETEQ 02 rear end well known to you all, and the VETEQ 02 fuel tank, but that is about it. The F180 is 2-WD (as its big brother). The front end and middle section are completely new. In-board shocks and anti-roll bar in the front of course. The car is true 1/8 scale, stretching the wheelbase with 6.5cm! The weight of the prototype is about 2680 grams, so a bit heavier than the VETEQ 02 which is at 2500 gram. This is mainly due to the larger tires (85mm rear and 83mm front). We will be testing special rubber tires too for this car, as foam-rubber tires do not look all that good. Realisme is a key factor in the F180 of course.

The pictures shown here are also posted in the VETEQ VIP-room image gallery.

Polls
I have created 3 polls to find out what you think of this F1 project. Your opinion is of course highly appreciated so please take some time to answer these questions, only takes a few seconds. I have also created a new forum for this project so you can exchange ideas about this project with other VETEQ owners.

Default 2nd Article

F180 a little more revealed ...

Exclusive preview in VETEQ VIP room
Following the earlier scoop about the F180, our Formula 1 project, we can now show you a little more detail of the car without the body. We aren't showing all the details yet though,

The F180 prototype will roll out in the next 2 to 3 weeks. We are awaiting a few more machined parts and the special Formula 1 like tires which will be developed in close collabration with GRP from Italy.

Those rims are simply black versions of the yellow ones. You could just get some rit dye and make yours black. Don't forget to soak in lacquer to get the foam off old ones.

I would cringe at having to race a f1 1/8th car. Parts are already expensive enough for Serpent! This type of racing is more about endurance racing, and I just don't see anything about it that says durable.

Perhaps someone could come out with something more simple for beginners in racing, whatever happend to 1/12th nitro cars?

Default Serpent formula one car

Hi,

It would be more nice to have a pullrod suspension instead of the pusrod.

The CG is thean lower, but I think it's very hard to build.

I saw it at the NEC expo and it was nice. It has a laid down engine on the right had side with the exhaust piped to the rear.

I would love to see it racing. With only 2 wheel drive it could be handfull!

Cheers

Once you have a FG 1/5 Formula one you would not consider one of these toys

I doubt this Serpent F1 would be cheap though

They already said that they wouldn't make an upgrade kit.
