Default Help with first nitro car

Hi guys,

I have decide to buy a nitro 1/10 onroad car to bash around the streets in..

I dont really know much about nitro cars but i am considering a few cars..

Now I'm not going to race this at all, its purely for street use.

The cars i have looked at so far are

Smartech (winner?) thats on ebay Australia
OB4 which i can purchase privatley here in Australia

How do the OB4 cars rate, the particular one im looking at is 1 year old and comes with everything ill need except fuel for $280AUD

The smartech on the other hand is brand new for $300 AUD but ill haveto purchase a couple of items...

Which car do you think will better suit my needs?

Are parts for the OB4 hard to come by?

I really had my heart set on a NTC3 but they are to expensive over here, even second hand but i noticed a few on ebay USA that are just in my price range..

All help appreciated

Cheers Dave

(Sorry for the long post )

MrRolla:

Ofna / Hong Nor parts are hard to get in Australia. You really have to get them from Radio Models in WA. The Smarttech are a very basic car. I would suggest something like the V1S V2, it might be a bit more expensive, they are strong, parts are easy to get and often quite cheap... and after a little while you did decide to go racing, it would a very cabaple chassis!!!

Hope this helps...

Hi Bundy Bear,

Thanks for your reply

So what your sayimg it would be better for me to find a better second hand car in my budget rather than buying a basic new car??

Its funny that you mention It as I have also been offered a Kyosho V-ONESII, how do these cars rate?

Dave

MrRolla:

Hmmm... I usually don't like getting second hand cars as you know they have been given a hard time. Having said that though, there are some real bargins around at the moment. I would strongly suggest a V1S. I have had two in the past as well as there big brother the V1R and all these cars have been very strong and realiable.

Head down to your local Mr Toys store and see what packages they offer. I know in Brisbane, they usually do them with radio at good prices. Give it a go!

How about a Nitro RS4 RTR3. You could try one of those. They are durable and there are alot of after market parts available to supe it up.

This was my first nitro car. It's a great beginer. The engine is very easy to tune. HPI now has the "Evo" RTR which is a little better than the 3-RTR. And like nitrous said there are plenty of aftermarket parts available so you won't have any problem upgrading and buying hop=up parts.

And if you dont like the car for what it is you can like the car for what it can be.

HPI parts have been a little hard to get in recent years in Australia until DSI took over as distrubitor. HPI are known for requiring alot of hop ups to make them a good car... I have never had one though, thats just my opinion from as an on looker.
