Either it is the incorrect size clip, or the groove in the layshaft is not deep enough.
They now have new clips out that have right angle taps on them that makes removal and installation very easy.<screw drivers are no longer needed to remove these new clips>
Kamikaze Toys and Hobbies carries these and they work great.
I use them on all of my cars. <Mugen MRX4X, Mugen MTX4R, Serpent 966>.
Contact Sam at Kamikaze <racing forum> and he will hook you up

Its called an e clip, just replace it with the correct sized one.
I always replace mine for insurance as they do loosen when removing and replacing all the time and with the right sized screw driver they come off very easy

I have never had this problem with the two speed shaft but I did have a pully do the exact same thing. Replaced the adaptor and all was fine. So, try getting a new shaft.

I'll second that. If new clips keep falling off, the shaft is worn.

I've had to push the shaft up a little (play) to make room to get it to seat right. Pushing the shaft from the side belt side.

Yes, get a set of circlips and you can last them for ever.

Never use a needle nose pliers to put an e-clip on. It is too easy to deform or strech out e-clip. If your e-clip go on easy it is too big and if it is a real pain to get on it is too small.

it's supposed to work perfectly, you must be doing somthing wrong.

make sure the clip is falling into the groove slot, and not just going over the shaft.

sometimes you have to push the shaft from the "side pulley" side to see the groove it's to fall into.

if it still falls off maybe you have the wrong e-clip
