Low Profile servos

Which ones?

Futaba BLS551 OR Futaba S9551 Low Profile
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXWYV1&P=ML
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXRWS8&P=ML

I was thinking of using the BLS551 for steering and the S9551 for throttle?

other suggestions

i dont see how thee will be an advantage in your car
its only going to lift weight higher and wider than center

Specifications of low profile servos are %90 same as a standart blah blah servos..
As you know the main element is the weight.
I recommend you to get those servos.Your car will get lighter like 20-30 grams.

in the case of ko, it was about 10g per servo from 2367's to 2413's. even with the upright servo, it gives you a place to mount the regulator if you run lipo. if not, the weight isn't any higher than it would have been. there just isn't as much so it changes your throttle servos cg by 10g if you are worried about that. my car is super light on the pipe side (I run idm/picco, max/nova seems heavier and closer to normal balance on the pipe side) so I needed the weight off of the radio tray side although I run a brass battery plate and nimh to get back closer to 1730g.

Im running Savöx SC-1251MG low profile servos in my nitro touring without any problems, they weight 41gr with shortened wires so I can recommend them. They are also cheaper than the rest.

was also looking at the orion vortex

I second that too...I m using Savox 1251MG as well....the spec is also good 0.09 sec @ 6.0V with 9kg of torque....not to mention its one of the cheapest low profile servos out there. I have convert all my car's servos to Savox now. The spline is same as Futaba so you can use futaba's servo horn. I have tested it during 5 hrs endurance race and it never missed a beat.

From what I read somewhere in this forum, Orion servos are made by Savox.

i heard somewhere savox makes the orion servos..

and i was looking at the orion and the savox specs look exactly the same..

the case looks exactly the same aswell.. and both aluminium & titanium.. alum case.. etc

musti72 04-12-2010 08:38 AM

Yes, team orions are basicly same with savöx, just more expensive.

Jason:

I ran the Futaba servos for quite a while. Do not use a smaller servo for steering on your RRR. The strain relief for the wires will not stick out far enough. Trust me, I have been through it. Also, I had some pretty bad luck with the BLS551 servos.

If you want to go Futaba then go with either a 9452 servo for steering and the 9551 for throttle.

I recently switched over to the Orion servos.. They are great. I use the 1409 for steering (the 1007 is fine also).

I use the 1009 for throttle. As Brian said earlier, mount your regulator (if you went lipo) to the bottom of the throttle servo. Plenty of room there.

Horizon hobby distributors, through the name Orion. Horizon is extremely good at getting exclusive deals and I would expect this is one of them.

It gives you a good excuse to order from asia and get all the random parts that you can never justify spending $30 to ship $30 worth of parts for though.

I use the 9551 on the throttle. I mounted it underneath the radio tray on my NT1 and it fits perfect. No C.G. concerns.

Serpent America will be the importer. We should have them in less than 1 month
