Hpi Rs4 3 ss
just finished building the rs4 3 ss and so far i feel achaimed of my purchase. Comparing to the .15 kyosho model and its design, mine is like a butterfly.
Is it durable? with the small sticks holding my four wheels i feel insecure. What major differences are their in the r40 that the rs4 3 ss doesnt have. thanks Beholder |
The RS4 3 Type SS is a GREAT car for the money. Excellent engine, super durable, and great value. I had one as my first nitro car. I still have it. It is my parking lot basher and it is super durable.
The R40 and the RS4 3 Type SS are two different cars. One is a racer and one is a parking lot basher. The R40 will be much more expensive than the RS4 3 when you add up the engine, pipe, electronics, etc. |
hpi restrictions
thanks alot that brought my confidence up :D
one thing i due question does the hpi car have restrictions on the suspension because it seems to go too low hitting the floor. beholder |
Add the plastic shock spacers that comes with the kit. Should raise your ride height by some millimeters.
|
It was my very first car i purchased last year. And its plenty durable if it can last the punishment i put it thru. I think its an OK choice for a first car.
|
Yeah that is the only thing I don't like about the car is the ride hight, it is hard to keep it from scratching the spacers work try that.
|
that i figured out. disadvantage is the shocks will be hard. going to try and put a bolt touching some kind of a part to stop it from hitting the floor.

hi guys:
I am a newbie, it took me a month to build this car.....well, i took my time, work on it like once in a week or 2 and finally got it done, i went to hong kong came i bought a set of Kyosho coilover... yes sounds stupid, the car is not even tuned yet, i bought coilover and new gas tank already. anyway, i am having a problem, i dont know how to tune it:sweat: like after 4 tanks of break in gas, and everything setup, i tried to drive it around, but it doesnt wanna move at all, like when i give it half trottle, it idle for 10secs then slowly......move forward, i checked it wasnt the brake, i am wondering if its the clutch? please dont bash on me.... and i am new to nitro not new to r/c Thanks |
I know the clutch assembly can be confusing when putting the car together so check this outhttp://hpiracing.com/graphics/instr/n3ss/kn3_21.jpg
|
your idol might be really low.... you can adust it with the idol screw on your carb. or on your radio you should be able to? but if that doesnt work then...... i dk:confused: but i dont think it would be a problem with the clutch if you can get the car to move.
|
i adjusted the throttle, and the idle is not too low, since the car didnt die and sounds like its trying to die
also i checked the clutch, i put it together right, i am still trying to figure out whats wrong with it... Anyway, Thanks alot for all your replies :D:D :D |
my friend jsut got his new kit, looks good, makes me wanna get nitro too, but i jsut bought a new pro 4

I have (had) an RS43SS
Its hardly an RS4 anymore though :) Here are some pics: http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/att...achmentid=3000 http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/att...achmentid=3001 http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/att...achmentid=3002 http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/att...achmentid=2997 http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/att...achmentid=2998 Its got a Full Wolfpack Radicals setup on it. Chassis, steering, and 2 speed. The .12XS is a HOT plant and smokes the .12 SS plant (but the .12 SS Plant is VERY nice for its cost and the fact is comes with a kit). The car is geared to match the ratio of the TC3's ,and the center driveline has been dropped 3 - 4 mm closer to the deck to lower the CG. The HPI Deck, Futaba HRS setup (wiht the digital HiTec 925 Servo for steering), And the Racer fuel tank ( no bottom fuel nipple to screw with). its got CVD's all around, hardened pinion/shaft for the diff cases, MIP shock shafts, etc... Its also wearing the Racer2 Graphite Suspension bits. Overall the car is a firebreather. There were some parts I didnt upgrade yet, like the shock towers, shock boddies, etc... Mainly because it wasnt needed. I went for real impact changes to the machine or replacing burned out items. ( I ran the car HARD all last year). I love the RS4-3SS, while not the most bad ass machine in stock form, its very durable and good for parking lot goodness. |
also to prove the stock RS43SS durability... I got my car Tboned at 40 Mph with another RS4 3 moving at the same speed ( we were running in a figure 8 and I spun making my timing of the center crossing off and my bud and I colided.
It threw my car a distance of 30 - 40 Ft in the air and slammed into a curb then a brick wall while flipping end over end. only damage: Exhaust header was flattened, exhaust pipe was broke a bit. 20$ to replace both and I was back running an hour later. Other other RS4 was not even damaged. They are solid and very reliable cars. Just one BIG word of caution - if you start getting driveline lash REPLACE THE CUPS. if you dont the lash will build to the point you snap dogbones pulling out of corners (from brake'n to power causes the lash to go full sweep and SLAM the pins on the dogbone, sheering the end off.) |
that is good that you know that, but arnt dog bones cheaper than cups? so why wouldnt you just replace dog bones
