Hi guys,

I can't decide on which car to go between the R40 and MTX3. Both seem to be really good cars, so I decided take the decision budget based.

I know that the R40 is less expensive than the MTX3 when you buy the kit, but do I will have to add a lot of $ to put it at the MTX3 level.

Briefly, what is the basic mods I will need to do on both cars to make them race worthy? Just to give me a general idea...

I want to know the approx price of the car after the basic race mod.

You don't have to really put any money into any of them to make them competitive.

Well I have an R40. It does not need any hopups to race. I ran mine stock for a while and it hauled ass at least as fast as any other car out there. Some people will tell you it is too heavy, but they obviously have not driven it.

The MTX3 also is an awesome car. I don't know if you "need" any hopups for it. They are very quick.

You don't really need anything for the MTX-3. Two things I did get right away was the front universals and aluminum hex hubs. Finished 2nd in A-main after having the car for a month. Everything else was stock.

The Mugen pretty much don't need any upgrades. I didnt even have the front universals and the car ran great.

On the R40, I belive that you can be competitive with it right out of the box as well, because not that many drivers can actually take the full advantage of the upgrades.

I agree both cars are very competetive but i think the mtx3 has the edge. I also think its a bit more durable. A few racers at my track have broken pivot balls on the r40 quite easily.

I didn't want to start the old R40 vs MTX3 war. Anyway, I am not a strong driver enough to go get the little detail that make one car better than the other.

I am talking about the money I will have to put in each car.

1. Which car have the most part and the less expensive one?
2. I heard about an upgrade kit for the R40, but what is the price of it and what are the parts exactly?

I am starting with a Radio, a receiver and two servos. Period.

I have to build a racer from scratch. At least something that will be reliable for racing. So what will I have to invest if I go in one car instead of the other. I know that both will be very good for me... ---> ...so I decided to let my wallet pick up one.

If you don't want to make many upgrades, then R40 is the one to get

Parts are generally cheaper and more available

I think you need to visit your local hobby shop and track and find out which car has more parts support and cost less.

I don't know why you say that... Between the MTX-3 and the R40, I think they are equal in terms of upgrading and hop ups...

You may be right on this. But where I come from, the R40 parts are about the same if not more expensive than the MTX-3 parts. Maybe where Frag comes from, MTX-3 parts are cheaper !

I'd like to quote what PSI Racing mentioned about choosing cars...

All I could say is all the cars that are out right now are capable of winning.

The best advice I could give you on choosing your car is buy a car that you could buy parts for at your local hobby shop.

Buy something that fits your driving skills.

Make sure you get a car that you could get support from the guys at your track.

Bottom line, buy something that you like.
