Default Track Build Question

hello guys,

we here in Kuwait are trying to build a new onroad track (waiting for official approval) and we almost have evrything sorted out, my questions is about the corners apexes, do you guys have another idea to make the apexes rather than the asphalt ones?? ive seen few metel ones in Thailand and would like to hear more ideas about them.

i know many of you raced on alot of tracks around the world, so you should have more ideas than i do.

thanks alot

Ali

what type of track are you building ? one with runoff grassed area, or one big flat pad and painted infield ? for this type of track, i have seen special discs made to mark out a track. or you can use some form of piping, then just paint in red and white a dummy apex, and have the infield a different colour.

I've used floormats painted white, seemed to discourage corner cutting before you get to the actual board. A good thing to try is just plain white and red paint and a small tire far enough inside of it to discourage corner cutting. Another thing you can do is loop a plastic piece around a board (Flappers), white plough disks also work well if applied properly. Look on youtube of rc races out there and you can get an idea of what works and what doesn't work.

Looks like flat layed, not circuit laid bitumen.

http://rccck.org/images/phocagallery...l_IMG_1174.JPG

Laying thin compound on top wont work too well as it might crack... Temps are quite in a broad range over there Id assume.

Gilston / Gold Coast Australia managed pretty well though.. might want to ask them how they managed such a low profile.

(Kirby Masterman at the Northern Rivers titles)

Moorebank in Sydney did an awesome job...

KWT "The curbs" apex at Moorebank I think are separate concrete construction from the asphalt track. I dont think it applies to your needs. PattoJr has raced at more tracks than I have and will know more, Gilston in the Goldcoast has the smoothest curbs (apex) on laid bitumen that I have raced and the temperatures can get quite high there too.

Gold Coast / Gilston

most of those pics are of seperate construction.

if thats what you want , then you will have to sort the pad out first then add the Curbing.
thats why i suggested just paint the apexes in the colours you wanted, then add piping near the apex to prevent track cutting. when your up on the stand , the painted apex is easy to see, and a different infield colour again seperates from the track as well. ill see if i can get a pic for you from teh bunbury club where i race.

my club is right in the middle of planning our new onroad track, here is a plan of our site we have already finished offroad, the track is about 250+ mtrs long and will have all grass infields and runoffs with a concrete pit area, one thing that we need to be aware of is the high rain fall in our area so we will have huge drainage with most of the track ie corners especially with 1/2 degree camber, the bitumun will be smooth with a cut in compacted road base, I am not sure on how they finish the edges but we are looking at 3.5 mtrs wide through out. the onroad track design is not decided on yet and the drivers stand will be engineered to accomodate both sides.
Site layout with track.pdf
cheers

the track is 45 by 60 meters, 4.5/5.5 meters wide and a straight of around 55 meters. track is 300 + meters long and could be shorten to around 250 meters.
