Default Hand-made pipes

hi guys, I dunno if there's a thread about this already, but here goes

first, I really want to know what makes a pipe legal,...

I'm making my own currently,... did single-chamber and 2-chamber prototypes already, based on OS' left-side pipe (will post pics soon), low-to-mid punch (torque) is boosted, but loosing a bit of top-end (I normally run on a small-mid local track, using taller gear-ratio... low traction surface)
things that I doubted about the pipe was, conformity to the regulation on size (mine is really fat (62mm) but kinda short (91mm), compared to the Kyosho' pipe for the FW (52mm) mine's well hung, hehehe... oh,.. and it's rather loud as well (115+ db at 5 meters),... it's made of sheet metal (love the tone actually, has "rrriiinggg" sound between the deep-warbling tone on-throttle) ....

I'm having another proto' pipe w/ silencer pipe manufactured currently (like on full-size 2-stroke pipes) not tested yet, maybe next weekend...

if you're in the know about regulations, please educate and share, otherwise I'll consider the pipe as an outlaw one-off pipe, hehe...

cheers folks

Not sure if you're talking about .12 or .21 pipes but for .12's the max ID of the stinger can be 5.0mm, the length of the stinger tube can't be any shorter than 15mm from it's square end to the belly of pipe, also there is a decible limit measured at a certain distance and angle but I don't remember any of the details on that and have never seen that doen at any ROAR races. Also any moving parts like what's in cvec pipes is illegal, so your silencer/baffle thing might be considered illegal with how it sounds like you would build that part of the pipe. As far as I know anything else you want to do for length, diameter, taper, 1, 2, 3, 4 chambers etc... is alright. Unless if it's something super crazy like the pipe sticking way outside of the vehicle or something, shouldn't be illegal but might get some flack about it.

If you don't already have a ROAR rulebook you can go to www.roarracing.com and download it so you can see all of the rules. The engine info is like page 27 so the pipe info should be close to that.

How did you calculate 115+ decibles? Sounds like you greatly over estimated the sound.

"Your ears can endure 90 decibels of noise, such as a lawn mower, for about eight hours before damage occurs. For every 5 decibels above that, it takes only half as much time for damage to begin.

A noise at 95 decibels will hurt your ears in four hours. An arcade full of video games could cause damage in two hours. The average rock concert or stereo headset set at full blast (about 110 decibels) could damage your ears in a half hour."

it's a .12 pipe on a OS 12TR(P)T engine, sorry for not including the info earlier.

about the decibel: I measured it by using an dB meter (commonly used in audio contests), I'm not sure about the accuracy of the apparatus, but it's used for local dB contests over here. I's measured at 90 deg (angle) at 5 meters at full throttle,... I don't know about how loud it actually is,... but I can't apply WOT when I'm near the car or while tuning, though...

thanks for the link to ROAR, I'll check what it says
