Serpent has developed the 1st purpose made 1/8 scale electric onroad production car for onroad circuit use .

Its fully based on the highly successful Serpent 966 platform and shares the main components, full independent suspension, 4wd, belt-drive. The center section is now reserved for the electric components.

It features a purpose designed nylon bracket / holder for all components, like the 2 saddle Lipo packs 4800 or even higher capacity cells, the speedo and the receiver. The large high power BL motor is securely mounted on a sturdy alu motorplate between the rear 2-speed bracket and the alu radioplate support. Purpose made alu and/or steel pinion-gears, single speed principle.

All elements have been positioned in such a way that an optimal weight balance of the car is maintained. Charging and replacing electronics is very easy and accessable.

Silent high performance ….. incredible acceleration …..amazing top-speeds .....

Planned introduction: Mid december 2009

Serpent will also offer a Conversion set, to change your 960 or 966 into a full blown electric racer .... so you may just want to hang on to your 2009 car for this purpose.

i would like to see this in action maybe i would then get into 1/8th scale.

Don't forget another reason that we like nitro so much, run time although I could be completely off here since I am just going by 10th scale current draws.

So that puts us back at 5-6 minute mains. Electric has been stuck there for ages, and maybe it has something to do with the 8th scale sized motors or maybe it is just offroad but offroad cars can get 20 minutes of runtime or more depending on numerous things. All things equal, an 8th scale with an offroad motor (don't ask why I know this) gets about 5 minutes per tank in an 8th scale car and the same motor gets about 9 minutes in offroad because of the lack of traction and fuel consumption.

I can't tell for sure but I don't see a quick change system there for the batteries (even if I did, I wouldn't want to own even half an hours worth of 4s-5s? batteries for it at around 200 each)

Then again maybe this is a good thing for tracks that eat 3 sets of 37's in an hour long main. Electric, lipo and brushless have really taken a hold in the market with a product announcement as big as this.

Ya, how are you gonna do a 30-45min. main with this? I mean a 5-8 min. run, then charge two packs for 45min. for another 5-8 min. run? Gonna need to have alot of batteries on hand....thats gonna equal ALOT of fuel as far as cost if you ask me.

You can do it triple main style like the 1/10th scale big races.

.....agreed....NOT interested in spending huge bucks for a 5 miute main....get em to run 10-15 minutes.........then OK...............

i wonder what the price point will be?

ya, if it can run for 15-20 min so 2 -3 battery change for an hour final is ok. But 12 batteries for one final does not look interesting at all. :eek:

If you can make an adapter on the motor holding the Centax gears, yes you can.

With the 1/8 offroad brushless is becomming populair but I doubt it will get the same run with the onroad.

I've seen Zippy Lipo saddle packs (7.4V/5700mAh), that should fit for $30 (2 pcs)
So 12 batteries in your example will cost $180....
4 Lipo chargers (5A max) will cost $140, so all in all less expensive then 1 good Nitro engine.....

Sure, if you want overpriced batteries from LRP, or any other non OEM manufacturer.....
I go for Zippy batteries, run them in my M18 also, have 5 Lipo's for the price of 1 LRP....

Doing a fast battery change in the setup I see them fit in the 966, would be difficult...
But I think with 7.4V/22800mAh or probably 14.8V/11400mAh (to keep current as low as possible) Runtime would be more then 5 minutes...... (educated guess)...
