Default R40 & S710 + Cen CT4

I am looking for a second car, I sold my current car to a cousin so I really didnt not get to run it. I pretty much assembled it and sold it.

I wanted to know how these 2 cars compare on the track performance and tunability wise.

In addition, I know the R40 is much much cheaper?

I want a car to play when I am not at the track.. I really want a nitro mini rs4, but I was looking at a Cenct4? any insgith?

thank you!

only if your pocket can hold the pain each time the car breaks somthing.....
if you havnt been racing for a very long time,go with the ntc3 or the R40....the 710 has to many things to deal with when tuning the car.....

A misconception...

Most people think they cant make anything with quality, but the CT4R changed my mind about them.

A buddy of mine ran one last year and i was pleasently suprised with the performance. So dont go knocking it until you try it.

This topic has asked so many times, and I had the chance to build and ran (almost) all of those except the CEN car....

R40, it is cheaper on the kit, and very much the parts too....parts are easy to find and get (compare to SERPENT) but not necessary better then NTC3 parts.....and don't get the PRICE of R40 fool you, in order to get the R40 be able to run against the big boys like S710, G4, NTC3 or MTX3........you have to do the HPI R40 2004 Spec upgrade....that is easily another $150-$200...with the $260 kit....the fully loaded R40 is no cheaper then the S710.....but from what I heard (and from what I saw after I built mine)...R40 is defintiely a good car to race right out of the box....thsoe light weight and fancy options....is really up to you.

S710....if you buy parts from your LHS, make sure they carry Serpent....Serpent parts are hard to get, expensive to buy....but, their quality are amount the best in the industry. The S710....CUTTING EDGE design, $360, probably you don't need anymore OPTIONS (unlike cars like R40)....S710 already loaded a lot of options already, thats why they are not $260.....it is $360.
S710 is no easy task to tune, you need to have some TC 200mm experience and knowledge to handle that....also, all Serpent use slide and SG crank engine...usually, ppl run something at least $200 plus to mate the S710 along with a $100 header....if money is your concern, I really don't think Serpent is right for you, but if you are going for the best....S710 is no doubt one of the BEST BEST in the market right now.

NTC3.............I would say a overall the best car...cheap, no need a lot of option, easy to tune, and ..............fast. However, I found the car is alittle WEAK....car need constant tune up at the track...

So at the end, you have to ask yourself where are you setting your limit at.....is that the budget, or is that the quality is what you are chasing.....that made your choice of the 200mm TC.

go through and read the 710 thread and the r40 thread...

If you can come to the conclusion that the 710 is the top of the heap when it comes to quality control and fit and finish you're not reading the same thing I am.....

The car might be cutting edge technology wise, but their are more people replacing 710 parts and reading the set up manual than R40 customers....

The r40 might be heavier, but if you read the thread,it does not translate into lower performance....

CEN SUCKS and the ntc3 is a pain in the but to take care of so i say go with the s710 but make sure that you have plenty of lower bumpers for it.

I agree.........but if he think the stock R40 with $100 plus dollar cheaper is EQUAL or BETTER then S710....I just cannot justify that.
Again, I don't really see what is his background on the RC....if he is new or kinda new, like both of us said, S710 is NOT the car that he want, S710 is a TECH project, you have to study it.

Beside...........who is the really fast car that win major races now? MTX3? Or the Kyosho FW-05? Definitely not S710, R40 or NTC3...............

Again...I have both R40 and S710....and planning to see why I picked these 2 to race this season instead of MTX3 and FW05

Comparing cars by looking at who is winning Nationals and Worlds is not very useful.

If I could drive as well as the top 10 in the world, I could beat nearly everyone here with a CEN car. These guys have nearly limitless resources and time to refine their cars and driving capabilities. As long as the car can last the entire main, there is a good chance they will place in the A main at any large event.

The NTC3, MTX-3, 710, R-40, GT-4, G4, etc. etc.... are all very capable cars. Each has its own positives and negatives. Each is more suited to a specific driving style, track condition, and track length.

What usually works best is a kit that is locally supported, and has more than one person running it at the local track.

I have not seen a CEN kit that I would own, but you never know.
