Differences between On-Road engines and Off-Road engines
My question pertains to the difference between on and off road engines. What's the real difference between them? Can you run an off-road engine in a on-road car? What problems might I encounter?
I ask this because I run an OFNA DM-1 and I need to pick up an on-road engine of the .28 size to run in the stock GT class with the Kyosho GT's. I predominately run 1/8 scale off road buggies and use RB and Novarossi engines. I could choose to rebuild my RB WS7II (.21) and run the open class or just pick up a new .28 but I don't know what the real differences are between a .21 and .28 engines.
Thanks for your insight.

Nothing really in terms of construction and materials. The main difference is timing. On road engines have a lot more timing in them for high rpm HP. Yes you can run offroad motors in onroad. They just won't have the top end that good onroad motors will.

I think the difference is the internal tuning of the engine(construcction) I guess the off road engines have moore torque than rpm's and on road engines have moore banance of rpm's and torque but I can be wrong

Correct me if i'm wrong, but is'nt there a difference in the crankshaft lenth/diameter like sg and something else?

There used to be two different cranks. Standard threaded cranks and SG pilot shaft cranks. Onroad went SG first but now everyone uses SG cranks.

I am curious to find out if their is any difference on the mold for the case offroad vs onroad engine.
Novarossi has two a couple of different cases in the plus 21 series. Seems to be bearing size but I am curious if they are also molded different internally. I would think for a practice engine using onroad internals and crank and offroad case with the large oversized bearings would yield a good workhorse practice engine.
Offroad cases are a dime a dozen on ebay and almost never find onroad cases.

What bigger bearings? The biggest bearing I know of is the rear bearing for the Nova onroad motors. The only difference is most Nova offroad motors use a 14mm crank while most factory Nova onroads use a 14.5mm crank, though tuner motors like Max and RB still use 14mm cranks. In 14mm versions you have 25.4 and 25.8mm bearings.

mabry modified engines
More HP,More acceleration,More torque,if thats what you are looking for MABRY MODIFIED is the place. I offer you Custom OR Drag Modification for a fraction of the price that top level modders cost,"you know who they are".My cuts are precision cuts by measurement not by sight for maximum preformance. I have modified engines from Traxxas,OS,Picco, HPI, Novarossi,Losi,Sirio,Axial, , , and more. You will receive crank porting & polish, sleeve porting and polishing along with high quality silicone fuel ramp added to your crankshaft if necessary."My Silicone is not that cheap high temp rtv gasket maker that some modders use'

I'm leaning towards a Jammin .28 which since that's from the racing side of the OFNA house is probably the same basic .28 Force engine your referring too except for some tweaking.
Thanks for chiming in my friend.

Actually, the Jammin is probably a Picco while the Force is probably SH.
