Default lap counting systems

Hi

What are the options for lap counting systems? I know of the AMB system but are there any others?

I was looking for a cheap system so we could organise our car park bashes a little better.

I have seen the Orion system but you need a different counter for every car.

Does anybody know of a system that doesnt use a wire loop for up to 8 cars?

Cheers

I do not think their is anything out there excpet the AMB. They are definately the leaders in the feild of scoring races.

There are a couple of others that work using the AMB transponders but if you search through something like Google you will find many different manual operated ones too.

Use keywords Lap Counting Systems

KO Propo makes one. Its supposed to be about half as much the AMB, AFAIK, each racer has to buy their own transponder, but they are only $8.

I have seen one that uses lasers that is mainly for slot racing and only cost 300 bucks. Also no transponders.

I'll dig a bit deeper

Here is a place were you will find probably the cheapest manual one available. It is by a racing friend of mine. It can store up to 100 cars on 4 different classes.

www.jskelly.co.uk

I believe all software is bought and then downloaded. There is also a really good piece of free software for download to keep results of the championship. This software is fully internet compatible so it makes uploading results a lot handier too.

I really wish they'd come up with an affordable transponder system to put on mini-zs. Nobody running these things in their garages can afford an AMB system. I've seen literature on a few they use for slot cars, but not really sure how well they work. These particular systems use infared beams set at different heights across the track. The cars have a piece of tape on the antenna (all set at different heights), so when the tape interupts the beam, the car is counted.
