Default 2-speed issues

After getting fed up my TC3 and constantly breaking it, Im turning my attention to my NTC3. I did a motor swap to a 18 CVR and Im having issues with the two speed now. It seems to take at least half a tank before it will shift into 2nd, like it needs to be warmed up (or the engine just isnt reaching the RPMs). I have the adjustment screws as far out as they will go, so it will shift earlier, however when it does shift, it shift way too late. Is there some softer springs I can put in the 2-speed to make it shift earlier or is something else wrong?

First of all....is your motor tunned properly?

Secondly, check your clutch shoes and springs...they could be warn out, thereby wasting RPM's just getting the car moving. With the motor running, pick the car up off the ground. Hit the throttle a few times and listen for the shift of the two-speed. It could be shifting so early that you hardly hear it.

Check towerhobbies. I believe you can still get two-speed parts for the NTC3 from there

I was thinking it may have been hitting too early, but I slowly when from a dead stop up to speed and didnt notice the change. The clutch shoes are brand new, the springs have some time on them, but are still taught. I will try free wheeling it in the morning and see if I can notice the shift

From the way i understand your first post maybe your high and low end needles are to rich. Also as your fuel runs out it actually leans your motor out a bit so maybe by the time it's half full it's leaned your motor enough for it to reach the rpm's needed to let your 2 speed engage properly.

First thing i would do is get the tune/clutch right in the motor before you even worry about the 2 speed. Once you know that your motor is pretty close to a good tune take it down the straight and tune your 2 speed engagement. You want it to engage about 3m from corner exit but depending on the track aswell. You don't want it engaging just as your about to enter a corner

I've been working on the HSN tune, and at full throttle, my max temps are just getting into the 180* zone, so I know there may be some RPMs left in it. I really dont know if I need to touch the mixture screw as there is no hesitation at low speed

if your engine is only getting about 180 you are still really rich. kep leaning it out until your temp reaches around 260-270 F that should help also replace all the parts in the two speed that is what i had to do. hope this helps

260-270*??!? Wow, thats a little too hot for me. I like to keep mine right around the 210-220* mark

I don't know what it is in Farenheit but i like to keep mine running between 100-120 degrees celcius

100*C is 212*F
