assuming your track has GT SPEC rules?
Is there a $ limit on your motor and pipe?

Take the Axial. I've heared nothing but good things about that engine. Might as well go with the RR. Its only $50 bucks more.

My guess your running at LeisureHoursRaceway in Joliet.

As for the OFNA .28 "CurveTracer" (his name is Ken) may chime in soon. He runs that motor I believe. Ken runs out at LeisureHours also. I'm putting in a new GT2 engine in my GT1. Don't usually go out on Sunday race days, only Saturday practice days.

FastPete,
I have the Force .28, and a JP3 pipe in my IGT 1 car. The Force is a has nice power to get you through the technical sections. The Force .28/JP3 pipe combo is potent, just a bit on the loud side.
You should call Nitrohouse and ask them which pipe works "best" on the Hyper .28 engine.

Interesting the Picco P3 .28 is only $10 more than the Hyper .28, I wonder if the Hyper .28 power levels are close to the Picco's. It is too bad the Picco .28 is not on the list, everyone that has one reports that it has incredible power.

Hi,

Ok ran my Hyper Mach .28 today.Have about 7-9 tanks of fuel through it.And struggled with it tuning wise.Never went over 250.Engine seems slow.Bogs always coming out of the turns.Alot of smoke. Then finally cleans up and goes.Could be I have it too rich on the bottom and lean on the top.Broke one hot plug pushed the wire up in the plug.Went to a colder one then fine plug wise.Im running a 053 pipe. Was going to put my 086 on and give it another shot.Try to tune it better. Also running Byrons 30%.

But has no pinch cold?? And pulled the head and button is pitted and the top of the piston also, not real bad but quite a bit.And I think the oil smells burnt in the cyl?? Ive never had this problem before. Is this thing toast already?Or just put the 086 pipe on clean it up and give it another shot?

I have a Vspec and runs great and still has good pinch.I dont think im doing anything wrong but who knows.

Please help.

Thanks Pete

Pitting usually = damage. Usually engines will require you to install an extra head shim when running 30% nitro. I wasn't able to make the LHR race but ran in the HT race yesterday. I temped my Force .28 engine at 320.....I'm scared to open it up.........

Cold just a tiny pinch. And the engine is new.I dont really know what good compression feels like in a good engine? Just alittle resistance at TDC?Trying to figure out if this thing is bad? Or should I clean up the pitting and give it another shot?

What pipe do you run?Should I put the 086 on? And try to retune.

This engine is nothing like the Picco I had.

28 is not shimed for 30% you need to add a .20 mm shim, then run a od 99 plug that will help with temp. These engines like to run around 220-250 temps anything higher not good. Also leave the top just a tick fat and the bottom lean a tick meaning 1/8 of a turn.

Hope this helps

Thanks for all the replays guys.

But the question still is, Is the engine shot already? Only 7 tanks throught it.Not gallons and no pinch. Is that ok? How can I check if the compression is ok?

Pete,
1. with pitting on the top of the piston, you have had some detonation. Add .2mm head shim thickness to the existing head shims like phoenix357 recommended.
2. Some engines lose the initial pinch early yet maintain compression for quite a while. So, I would still race with the engine.
3. 30% nitro is nice and potent. But these .28 engines seem to produce nice power on 20% nitro fuel.

Race with this engine on the rich side until you can work on fine tuning.

Are you driving a DM1 Spec with a yellow painted body??
