Is there internet access at the track for ROAR to setup LIVERC so we can watch the race??

And good luck to Billy "Silverfox" Bowerman.

We pulled a few bodies in haste for the Winternationals in FL last January, and yes a few ended up at a couple of the larger distributors unfortunately. When I say a few – I do mean “a few”. I knew that there was a slight chance that this scenario could happen but I thought the odds were very slim. Go figure – the bodies must have been at the bottom of a bin or something for this entire 8 months. I assure you that the bodies without the engraved numbers are 100% identical to the ones that are engraved – however ROAR has made a judgment call - and that has sealed their fate.

To those who are affected, I can only apologize for what’s transpired here. I’ve learned from this and certainly won’t allow it to happen again. The bodies that are “not” engraved will still be good club racing bodies or practice & setup bodies because they are 100% identical to the engraved versions.

I’m so sorry to have added any hassle, inconvenience and expense to those racers who have recently bought these P909’s specifically for the Nationals.
I'll be there on thurs and friday if you want to complain to me in person.

Sincerely – Dale Epp - Protoform

Dale, I ended up with three of these, and don't remember when or where I purchased them. But thanks to Robert at Ashford, I had bodies the next day. Not painted to the same detail as the first, but they wil work. I can confirm that if you stack the bodies, they are identical, but the stamping.

So from me, no wories and keep the great stuff coming!!!

Not sure on the internet, but they were broadcasting on FM for local radios to pick up. My guess if there is, it will not be up until Thursday. I'll check in the moring and post info.

No the Toledo club does not have internet access, trackside. LiveRC will not be broadcasting the event. I'm sure there will be racers posted here on RCTECH throughout the day so I'm sure racers will be in touch.

Just so you know, ROAR does not contract LiveRC anymore. The host tracks work LiveRC for this service. Even so, you do not have to have permanent internet to have LiveRC broadcast an event.

So ROAR used to pay for Live R/C as well? No wonder it's was going over budget the last few years!

Default Wednesday's report

2009 Toledo Nationals
by Mike Myers

Wednesday's Report

Because of the increasing number of participants at National Championships several years ago, the on-road Fuel Nationals were split into two nationals, one for 1/10 scale sedan cars, and one for 1/8 cars. However, because of the poor economy, ROAR felt that attendance in 2009 would be very low, so the races were combined into one large national championship for both classes, to be held in Toledo, Ohio, hosted by the 1/8 Racers Club.

The race will be held Tuesday through Sunday, September 2-6. Many racers came out the preceding weekend for a Toledo club race. Despite ROAR's predictions, there is a huge turnout. A total of 115 1/8 scale racers signed up, split with 87 in the open class and 28 in Masters class. There were 102 racers signed up for 1/10 sedan. The track is essentially the same as was used for the Great Lakes Challenge a few weeks earlier, with some areas repainted. In accordance with ROAR rules, the ROAR Management Team came out to run the event. The race director was Jimmy Babcock. Ruben Benitez did the announcing, Canyon Thompson did scoring, and Steve McLaughlin was in charge of Tech. As always, the Toledo club members were around, helping things run smoothly.

Lou Przybyla and I arrived at the track late Tuesday afternoon. There was already a good sized crowd at the track, and by Wednesday morning the crowd had grown considerably. There were still additional people who had signed up, who were expected to arrive later in the week. At the time this report was being written, the race schedule was still being worked on. It will be completed later in the day.

The Toledo track has always been racer friendly, with boards that can move a bit when hit by a car. This minimizes breakage. The club constructed several steel frame structures for racers to pit under. Combined with the numerous tents, there was lots of room for pitting. Many racers showed up in motor homes or fancy trailers, which made for a comfy environment for them for the week. The track has a shopping mall right in front of it, with a small Chinese restaurant. More importantly, it also provides real bathrooms. Josh Cyrul's wife set up a food stand where racers could get burgers, hot dogs, drinks, and so on – all at very low prices. One of the nicest things about the Toledo track is some excellent nearby restaurants, such as Cuisnos, which offer excellent food at reasonable prices.

Wednesday's weather was in the low 80's, with pretty blue skies, and a nice breeze. It's perfect racing weather. As this is being written, the good weather is expected to last for the whole week. Wednesday was only for practice, which will continue Thursday morning.

The schedule for the rest of the event is:
Thursday – practice, followed by one round of practice heats, and one round of qualifying.
Friday – practice, followed by 3 ½ rounds of qualifying.
Saturday – practice, followed by 2 ½ rounds of qualifying, then some lower Finals.
Sunday – practice, followed by the Finals.

There is a full photo gallery of 150 pictures, mostly of many of the racers participating in the event. Go to:

http://www.sgrid.com/2009/toledo-nats/wed-1/

You'll need a "flash" player to watch it, as that's the only way I could set it up to provide an automated slide show. The large images are 750 pixels wide, which is the largest size I could select to get the slide show to work on an average laptop computer. Unfortunately, my internet connection here at the hotel is terribly slow, so I wasn't able to watch the whole thing to make sure there are no errors. I can make it run faster, but that means using a smaller image size...

Towards the end of the day I got to watch some of the practice, and one car stood out over all the rest – Scott Kimbrow was as perfect as anyone I've ever watched before. Thursday we'll have times posted for everyone.
