Changing from 20% nitro to 16% nitro, help please.
Hi,
Im changing from 20% nitro to 16% nitro fuel (byron fuels, both of them) ... Now, really i do have to mesh with the shims of my engine ? (Novamega SX12RE EV1) ... or its just put 16% nitro fuel and go to the track (previously with a little running inn ?). Thanks ... |

I have never heard of anyone switching down on percentages of nitro before, only higher percentages. As a matter of fact, I have always heard that it was not good for the engine to change down in percentage. I am sure it could be done. If it is only 4% difference, I would not change a thing. Just take notice in the take off performance and tune the low end needle for punch. You should not have any noticable difference in the temperature of your engine to mess with the high end needle.

I agree with sook. 4% difference down should be OK to just retune engine as a starter. the reason for going to 16% must be EFRA based rules on 200 mm TC racing correct? (Aomebody explain to me why that is a good rule though....:( )

InitialD is right,
Here in Brazil all the championships run over 20% nitro, but im STARTING to prepare myself and my car for the preworlds (im not an excellent driver so i need at leas 5 years of preparation heh ehehhehehe) ... and the preworlds run over 16% nitro ... i just need to know the difference in behaviour of the engine cause i will buy a new engine just as the one im running now ... cya ! |
See the head shimming thread. It helped me out with my problems.
Cheers |
With 16%nitro, you will not need to remove nor add head shims.
