Default Golden Rules of Driving

Hey guys, I was browsing around here and couldnt find anything related to this, but what I would like to know, and im sure most of the new guys on here would be interested in too, are some basic driving tips to keep the car on the track. The few I know are:

1. Never let go of the steering wheel on your Radio.
2. Stand up straight and dont slauch
3. Practice makes perfect

These 3 tips alone helped me become a much better driver in a really short time.

So what are some of the other things to keep in mind when driving up there? Please share your secrets as well with us common folk drivers !!

I think he means its easy to run out of fuel when racing (as if you dont fill up so much, you'll save a bit of weight) and nitro probably isnt the cheapest class to race in as you have the cost of fuel and spark plugs to factor in also.

My tip is just to take your time, don't try to go too fast around the track and be as consistant as possible. There is no point doing 3 or 4 really fast laps then wrecking... Don't race outside your comfort zone.

If in qualifying someone is a lap or 2 quicker than you then the chances are you might not have the pace to try and get past them. If they out qualified you by only a few seconds then there may be more of a chance take the position from them in the mains...

Racing isn't just racing, it can be quite tactical too, especially with any fuel stops or tyre choice to give you that advantage...

it means keep enough fuel on you, you might run out before you know it, and that r/c is expensive sh!t...

no,no,no. He clearly meant: Keep all your fuel in your pants pockets.

How about don't crash into the newbie.(If the fast guys were so darn good how is it they can't avoid a turtle on the track.) Or at least don't cry aout it.

Race as you'd expect others to race againt you.

Not every bit of traffic has to move over for the lead lap. The track is 12 feet wide after all. (Cars are what 12 inches?) Some still have a chance to catch up.

If your racing side by side, both drivers need to understand that to continue close racing they have to take two lines through the corner and not the preferred line. (everyone defaults to the preferred line to often, only one car fits on it)

Pit for someone, even if its qualifiers (all you have to do is drop the car). If more people volunteered to do this it would be more convenient for everyone.

Don't run out in front of moving cars to marshal, wait till they pass.

AGREED!!! I just tore a rear belt, my rear diff pulley got stripped and so did my 2nd gear on my mtx-4r all because of an uncleaned stony track..

I know those things arent soooooo expensive to recover, but after a while it takes a toll on your wallet !! Me and my dad just decided to pack things up and give it a break for a while.. Considering were not good enough to compete in tourneys yet.. I give this break about 1 week at the most.. hahahahah

and great tips guys.. keep em comin!

Best tips I've learned

1. Slower is faster
2. A qualifier is a qualifier not a race. Your only opponent is the clock
3. Learn to drive with 1/2 to 3/4 throttle.
4. Practice practice practice.
5 Have fun

+1 The last race I saw with semi-pro divers, the slowest looking car on the track won!

Consistantly hit you marks on the track. If you can hit the same spot every time you get faster automaticlly.

Its a whole lot harder to gain a second than it is to lose 5.

Exactly, nitro cars are fun with the speed they can get to, but if you don't respect the throttle, sooner or later, it will own you...

Being a newbie driver, everytime another car is approaching from behind me, i tend to get nervous and try to push harder to stay ahead, or if im catching someone, again i try to push harder and often over shoot through turns... So I'll take this as lesson learnt,

especially since the other day I was emabarassed by anEP car.. the driver was superb with his lines but I had him on the straights, my mugen blew him away on the straights.. but as soon as we got to the turns, he was all over me and I was making mistakes like nobodys business..

  1. Hit the head Before you hit the stand
  2. If your car dies, Announce it on the stand, gently..
  3. Don't yell at the marshall's.....you're the one who wrecked, not them
  4. Don't start yelling at the other drivers on the stand if they tap you
  5. respect other peoples lines
  6. Thank everyone when the race is over, and don't gloat if you win.
  7. Wear a headband in hot weather, nothing worse than sweat dripping in you eyes
  8. Let the leader by!!!!!!!
and the most important thing?...

Consistency wins the ballgame!!!!

Nope, nothing wrong, just double posted on accident.(slow connection)

If someone catches me I don't bother trying to stay ahead in the middle of the race. Usually they'll come on by then they will be the one sweating bullets cause I'll be following them. I usually try to run hard at the start and end of the race, cruise control in the middle. Its annoying when I let the leader by then catch up to him a lap later 'cause he's on cruise control. "Get out of the way leader!"

Allways race hard onto the straight with another car, but let off early. The rush of raceing will cause them to go too deep into the turn after the straight. Don't know how many times I've let someone by on the straight just to see them go wide into the boards. Works every time with other newbies.
