I don't think your source made it up. They were probably just told that by their source. There is an intentional "fog" around foam tire sourcing in an effort to make each company seem unique. There are not that many companies that make closed cell foam to begin with. Of these, there are even fewer that are capable of producing foam that is as consistent and high quality as the foam used for R/C car racing. Anyone who tells you that the rubber is made in someone's basement or in a garage (as I was told by a VERY reliable person in the industry many years ago) is a liar. It is certainly true that there are multiple sources from where the rubber is purchased (I know of 3), but it all comes from the same factory. Perhaps this is what they mean.

Jack if the factory is the same.what makes the deference in the tires except the rim?
there is tires that cost for us more than 13$ a pair and some others for a lot cheaper.

maybe the way there glues, how many rows etc.. ive seen that as far as a difference, but otherwise 25$ 4 for a full set of jaco's that perform exactlly as the "other" 35plus sets, were in a recession for cryin out loud!! LOL..yea guess it was a sales pitch to cover that extra cost..

Anyone tried the harder xceed wheel? I have had several of the lightweight rims fail and buckle all showing signs of fatigue... The lightweight rims are a total waste of money if you have 60mm of foam left on the rim....
